Not a good movie

Sorry but I was not so impressed with this movie. I understand that it's based on a true story, but they portrayed it very poorly. The script was cheesy and the characters weren't that deep, especially the kid, he was annoying and was kind of a bad actor. After watching the additional features I realized that William Hurt could have worked on his character. The real Mr. Osbourne was a cooky insect freak. Hurt just seemed kind of dull. They never really played out the ups and downs of the relationship between the kid and Mr. Osbourne, well if they did it wasn't enough. Sorry, just not that great of a movie.

The kid's not that great of an actor, that's for sure.

reply

Looking at the amount of work he has done, I'd say people who know acting would disagree.

reply

Well amateur or not, he's still terrible, and find me one person besides yourself who disagrees with me. This could have been a better movie had they found a better kid to play the role.

The movie was good. Not every movie requires a total polish method acting. On the DVD extras, William Hurt explained why he couldnt place according to real life on that....

The lethargic cliche-ridden narrative is alternately punctuated by beautifully shot jungle animal close-ups and absolutely godawful human dialogue.

I'm wondering if this movie was made with pre-teens in mind. Seriously, that's about the maturity level it's working at...

I also that it was pretty terrible! When they fell down the hole and the kid who has to be carried everywhere suddenly jumps up and heads home through the jungle to fetch help, I nearly just burst out laughing!

Wooden acting, dreadful dialogue. Etc.

I was watching it yesterday and I was thinking 'worst movie ever'

and i almost never do that!!

but this movie was really bas, specially the mother of the kid. Watch the scene where she falls into the swamp... LAME

Hurt was the only good thing about the entire production

Yeah the kid was flat on every line. And the pacing was unbearable. I also hated the amount of nature close-ups. We understand there's a lot of blooming wildlife in the RAINFOREST. Let's stick to the plot and not put in EVERY damn cool shot the crew could get of scenery interspliced in scenes - which takes you completely out of them. Very true - not a good movie. Decent premise but overwhelmingly bad in every other aspect.

Yes, the kid can't act, but I still enjoyed the movie. A real life positive story is always a relief.

reply

A real-life positive story is indeed a relief, usually. But this film has the look of one of those 'inspiring' formulaic fables which you know from the start will have a happy ending. I was quite surprised to learn that it was based on a true story.

Marc Donato is another matter. If his _long_ IMDb resume doesn't convince you of his talent then I suggest you look up the TV film 'Locked In Silence' in which he was truly extraordinary. (It appears now and then on cable.) If after viewing it you still dismiss Marc's talent then the fault, dear Tanster, is not in the star but in yourself ;-)

Not the best canadian flick that I've seen, however it's mildly entertaining. Besides the cinematography is gorgeous.
I dunno too much about the true story on which this movie is based, but apparently is even more fascinating than the movie itself.

For those of you who panned the film, you should know that it was nominated for six awards, winning one of them, and got raves from a preview audience when it first came out
The problem is that so many of you have been brain washed by seeing so many movies with overdone action, too many special effects, and over the top acting.
It was the softness of most of the film, the showing of what a miracle all life is and how we seem to feel we are the best of what lives on this earth, when we are actually pretty much near the bottom.
The truth is, that when a true life story is made, as close as it can be, people always expect and want to see far more than real life.

In September another true story turned into film will be released. I have a feeling this will be a wonderfully inspiring movie staring actor Gerard Butler.
