May- Charlotte Wakefield

I thought the segments featuring May were very good. Her troubles in adjusting to the war, the loss of her family and rebuilding her life were excellent. In contrast, the boy was boring and a distraction.

The boy was okay as an actor. It's just that his family problems were pretty trivial. May in contrast adjusting to a new life under wartime conditions was very interesting.

Hi, Im Charlotte Wakefield. I played May. I know you're probably going to think "yeah right" but it is. I do check up occasionally on what people are saying on here about the movie and its really nice to hear people rating my performance. Thank you very much for the comment made. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

I'll accept you at your word Charlotte, and it is very good to hear from you.

Here are some questions:

How old were you when you made "An Angel for May"? She looks about 10 to me, but I am usually pretty poor at guessing ages.

And what are you up to? Are you still in school?

Your performance as May was excellent. Do you think you will pursue acting or have you other interests now?

Well i was 10 when i actually began auditioning for the part of may. It was about May 2001 when i attended my 1st audition. I had 4 recall auditions before i was given the part. There was about a months preparation before we bagan filming which was like costume fittings, hair and make-up tests and so on. We began filming in July and for lisencing reasons i had to have the filming period off school. We finished filming at the end of October, at which point i had turned 11. It stated in the contracts of Matthew (Tom) and I, that we were only allowed to be infront of the camera for 4 hours per day because of our ages (he was 12 at the time), thus making filming slower.

I am now almost 17 and i have just taken my GCSE exams and completed compulsary education. I am, however, going back to school in September to start my A levels in Drama, Dance, Music, Music Theatre and English. I hope to then go on to University to study Drama and Music Theatre. I actually just got a call off my agent telling me that i have an audition for the English BBC series "Doctors" on Monday so...thats good. Since "An Angel For May" i have done various professional stage shows and done some TV work.

Yes Well done Charlotte for giving such a good performance as May in the film. I agree that the film would have been even better had it had shown more of May's world. The young boy was also a fine actor and I am sure we will be seeing much more from both of you in the future.
