Question about the ending --SPOILERS--

I enjoyed this movie too but I was confused at the ending. When Tom sees May at the end in the graveyard they have this strange conversation that seems to not fit the circumstances - maybe I missed something. As they're talking it looks like Tom is starting to realize he's talking to the grown-old May but May doesn't pick up on it right away. Then she says something like "you look familiar" and "you look like a grandson" but doesn't seem the least bit puzzled that he's still a boy even after it seems like she realizes it's him. Then, when he finally calls her name as she's walking away, there's absolutely no reaction on her face that he knows her name. I expected that she would be surprised and also perplexed he's still a boy. Then she says something like "I thought that was you," like it happens every day that you see someone who hasn't aged in 50 years. So did anyone else think this whole ending conversation was strange?

He had told her that he came from the future. As for her not responding to her name, perhaps that was a choice of the director. Who knows why? Perhaps she was supposed to appear to be denying the fact, as the idea of time travel is a bit threatening to us. She may not have wanted to acknowledge it.

She knew him for three days when she was very young. I think it
took a while for his face to register with her.. I know I barely
remember a cousin of mine that died when I was very young... I don't
know that i would recongize her today.

Hey! You can't fight in here...this is the war room!!

The elderly May in the cemetery did tell Tom finally that she knew him right off. She knew during the entire conversation who he was. And even only knowing him three days, he still made a big imprint in her memory since it was his friendship that brought her out of her shell and back into the real world so to speak.

I thought the film was just fantastic and really helped to bring the past and present together for Tom. A great story and wonderfully acted by all the cast.

She didn't know who he was at first. She thought he must be the grandson of the boy she had known. She might even have forgotten that he said he was from the future (after all she was in a confused state of mind at the time). But I did think it odd she didn't try to find out who he was when she found his face so familiar. That bit of dialogue aside I thought the film was beautiful and the performances uniformly fine.

man really don't type such crap when the real answer is above. She said she recognised him from the spot, she knew right away who he was cause like the title sais he was like an angel to her that get her out of her shell (poster two posts above me mentions it). You don't forget such people fast even if they were only three days in your life.

The reason she didn't react is cause he didn't call her may but bye her name of when she was the bumb that was just roaming around in that village. But cause he altered the past she didn't have any recollection of that name and just couldn't react. When he meets her she says that she thougth he was a grandchild but that she knew that it was him. Why does she show little much appreciation? cause she didn't know what would happen to her but she is still gratefull for the friendship they had. Mb an other reason why she didn't ask so many questions is cause theire is just no reason. Tom saved her but she doesn't know, at least tom knows it and that's all that Tom needed. To know that may would be fine after all.

Of course, everybody in their 70's would shout it from the roof top. The ten year old boy stood in front of them was actually a ten year old boy from 65 yrs ago. Yes she recognised him, but rationalised the situation. How many people get a question wrong and when the answer is revealed, shout "I knew it"?
