I AM CATHOLIC AND I JUST WANT TO SAY.......

This film is by far one the best films I have ever seen. It is not attacking Catholicism, just the Catholics. There is a difference, my family is from Rural Mexico (We live in US now) and this film hits close to home for ALOT of people that is why it was so "controversial."

didnt you think it not so much attacked catholics but attacked the vow of celebacy. I mean, theirs a whole scene where Gaels character says he wanted to be a priest to help people but would also want to get married and have children and dont think that the two should be exlcuded from eachother.

In early times, priests and clergymen could marry and have families. Somewhere along the way, the Catholic Church changed this and all hell broke loose.

The Godfather Part II:Greatest Ever

We're gonna raise more hell than Hellraiser.

I am catholic as well, educated in a nun's college for 11 years! Thanx God I survived that! hehe

I don't see this movie as an attack to catholicism, neither to catholics in general, but as an attack to corrupt people and corrupt institutions. Now that's different!

The priests are human beings, therefore some are better persons than others. But the truth is that most priests have to live in a world of hypocrisy and power. And as everybody knows: "Power corrupts".

I am not saying that whole the Catholic-Hierarchy is full of hypocrital people, but that several of them succumbs when faced to the power and wealth.

What I am saying is nothing new or a revelation by any means, it happens since the ancient times, not only among catholics or christians in general but among ANY members of ANY institution where power and ambition are present. That means: Everywhere... from politicians to priests thru entrepreneurs and militars. Corruption is everywhere as the opposite: well intentioned people.

I've known despicable people who are catholics, protestants, jews or budhists or atheists and good people from any religion (or without religion) as well.

i just watched it again last night. i feel that it takes a stab at hidden corruption in the church in general, not necessarily just the catholic church. it shows its hypocrisies and curruption, which actually i suppose can be found in any public or private sector.

All the RC Church has to do to end many of its major problems is become The Anglican Church Plus Pope. Dump all that celibacy and let women become clergy, and a HUGE amount of human-created problems will disappear. And I'll bet that God won't object one whit.

True facts: The first pope (Peter) was married and so were many subsequent ones. In the Greek church, parish priests are required to marry, primarily to head off problems like this.

In 2 Corinthians, Paul says it is better to marry than to burn with sexual desire and risk "fornication". This biblical injunction was one reason the protestants dropped the requirement like a stone.

The original reason for priestly celebacy is that priests were handing down their offices to sons, taking them out of church hands. Concubinage was winked at partially because any children would be illegitimate and thus could not inherit. The pope who declared celebacy the rule was warned about the problems it would generate, which we see to this day.
