Amelia's Father **SPOILER**

Did others gain the impression at Amelia's funeral, had they not done so before, that Padre Benito was the real father of Amelia.

The look he gave Father Amaro followed by his exit from the church seemed to suggest this, at least to me.

Yea, I wondered about that too, but it seemed so random that I kinda dismissed the idea. You'd think that they would have mentioned it earlier and actually confirmed that it was true.

reply

I havent seen it, but I have read the book, and I can assure that none of the characters in the story is Amelia's father.. at least not in the original story.

reply

Nope, she even mentioned at one point in the film that Padre Amaro HAD to be the father...another words there was no other guy she was having sex with.

reply

No, what OP meant was who Amelia's father was.

Since her mother had been having an affair with Padre Benito for years, and since she didn't have a father on screen, one could guess that he was her father. Although her mother could just as easily have been widowed, and that person could have been her father.

IMO, Padre Benito being her father is a possibility.

I think Padre Benito was Amelia's father. It was another cover up & sin that was haunting Padre Benito for a long time, and it's just another sin added to his other corruption that he truly believes he will go to hell. So if you think about it, both Padre Benito and Padre Amaro lost their children in the story, by trying to cover it up. While the other Padre Natalio, who was banished from the Church, had it easy compared to the other two who were covering everything up.
