How was anyone on this show "stereotypical"? It made fun of people who stereotype (Sara's parents, the cheerleader David went out with, etc) more than anyone.

reply

But that was the point to my way of thinking-- they were NOT "stereotypical Mexicans." I am not chicana but I grew up around the Mexican culture in southern California and Arizona (pray for us about the Border situation)and I felt the characters held true to the essence of a very modern Mexican-American family *without* stereotypes. For example, it was the arrogant daughter-- the pride and joy of the dad who could see no wrong in her-- who was bain of her tender and sweet younger brother's existence. (The younger brother was played by Pablos Santos who just died in a terrible plane crash.) The Mexican-American father might be construed to be a "stereotype" in his overbearing heffe role but he was married to an Anglo and was always being shot down when he acted up. The Dad's younger brother was hilarious in non-stereotypical ways, playing a "suave" (in his eyes, which made for comedy) divorced man who lived with his brother's family. It was a truly Mexican family as I have encountered Mexicans with multi-generational families (which I have always loved about the Mexican culture) and truly a second generation, "encorporated" American family with a very non-stereotypical Grandmother. (They might have gone overboard with making the Grandmother-- who had been born in Mexico-- SO non-tradional.)

I was very sad to see Greetings from Tucson go off the air.

My goodness, I had not heard Pablo died! I'll check that out, thanks.

Well, if we want to see this on DVD, more of us had better go over to TVshowsonDVD.com and vote for it. There are less than 200 votes so far. I would love this to come out on commercial DVD.

It's runnin on HDNet on DirecTV right now -- Sundays where I live in Chicago.

Being from Tucson myself, I saw nothing stereotypical about anything. I thought that they were a normal mexican family. I guess the ones who were offended werent even mexican, or latino at all. That's my guess. But I loved the little inside jokes and pictures they showed like Mi Nidita. Nobody knows that restaurant unless they're from Tucson. I'll bet that nobody calls the George Lopez show stereotypical, but then again midwest podunks digest anything as long as its from L.A.
