What kind of PD would waste money on Hummers for its CSIs?

There were many cheaper vehicles with more cargo space, cheaper maintenance and better gas mileage for less than half the price (in 2002). Those funds could have gone to a lab equipment fund or some other better use. I don't buy the "confiscated from drug dealer" idea, since they are all matching.

It was actually mentioned in at least one episode, I don't remember which, that the hummers were donated.

It's mentioned in the 10x05 episode "Killer Regrets". I'm watching that one right now, and it made me remember reading this post :)

I wonder how much the makers of the Hummers paid to have them shown on the TV series. Usually in the past, you would see in the ending credits "Automobiles furnished by...". Now I think car makers have to lay down some cash too.
