still on?

Does anyone in the UK know if this series is still on? I think it's great but have to be content with the series on DVD since I live in the States.

Here in Australia we have just had Season 3, followed immediately by Season 4.

I think we have had three eps since the last ep of Season 3 (the stock car racing ep). I think that means next Saturday will be the final for now. And yes Roger Daltrey was in one of the episodes about old school villains. Another episode (I think it was the first ep of Season 4) was about the discovery of a snuff film in a dead mans house. That ep guest starred Jamie Bamber of the new Battlestar Galactica. Last nights ep was about a pair of old stand up comedians.

Hope this info helped.

Thanks - I'm so glad to hear that I have seasons 3 and 4 to look forward to. Does anyone know if they are they still showing new episodes or is season 4 the end of it?

I'm another states-side viewer of The Last Detective. Netflix doesn't have seasons 3 & 4 available yet, sadly.

I was not a big fan of Campion, but I'm really enjoying this series. I have a whole new respect for Peter Davison. He does a really fine job with this character.

I love the reviewer's description of this show as the Saint Bernard of detective shows. That about sums it up for me.

I recently reserved series 3 coming out in May on Amazon.com. I agree with you about Campion - Peter's character was too bland. But in The Last Detective, he has more of a personality.

A new series started last night, it got off to a good start I thought.

I'm only going to say this once: stay out of Camberwick Green - Sam Tyler

Thanks Tweekums! Now I just have to wait 2 or 3 years for the DVD to come out ... I'll be interested to know what happens between Dangerous and his sometime wife. The writers must be crazy portraying her as uninterested in Peter. There's a million women out there who would give their eyeteeth for a chance to be with him!

Sorry folks, I am here in the states and I have to disagree with you both. Considering the era that was portrayed I believe Davison did an excellent job on Campion. I believe the studios in England sometimes don't know a good when they have it. The popularity of the British detective and comedy shows is very high and has been for quite a while. Period dramas are great too. They need to start showing more of these great shows in the states sooner instead of later. Also, I agree with you about Davison being too bland in Dr.Who, but he was great in All Creatures Great And Small.

i have to agree with this. campion is/was one of my favorite mystery shows. the character may have not been terrifically impressionable, but it was definitely there, he was just quiet, obsessively proper, strangely kind, and everything that someone who did not care for attention or eccentricity would be like. it was a hard balancing act to pull without sounding like a one dimensional goody, but his calm competence inspired some great character development. i was sad to see it so short-lived.
being in the states, we dont exactly get bulletins on popular british actors and their shows, so i sort of stumbled on this show recently and i've been loving it. there's more immediate character formations and strange/amusing situations, but the character carries that same humble quality while being bogged down with regular troubles. really, it's almost the same character placed in a different time without the status, which is fun to watch.

I thought he was a very good Doctor Who, he played it differently making a more unsure, vunerable and thoughtful Doctor. I think thats what made him different unlike other Doctors he got things wrong and was fallible. Which may have led to him not being as popular as other actors in the role. I don't think he was bland, but thats my opinion.

Plus after his tenure the show really went downhill.

He's brilliant in this its just a shame that the seasons aren't longer. Thats the problem with TV over here, they don't make enough episodes. Over in the states they get 20-25 episode seasons such as 24, CSI, House etc.

Over here we usually get 6-13 episodes and I suppose that shorter seasons are present in the USA also I believe Dexter and Nip/Tuck aren't as long (13-16 episodes). Robin Hood and Doctor Who get 13 which I suppose is fine but its a shame when Spooks and shows like this only run for 4-6 weeks and thats it for a year. I know too much of a show can be a bad thing but I would think 8-12 episodes would be a good number for a show like this as after the 4-6 weeks I feel dissapointed theres not more.

Also I would think it would be easier to sell to American networks if there was more episodes

I agree about Davison's Doctor. I thought he was a great Doctor and my joint favorite (with Pertwee being the other). I also tend to find his stories a lot more rewatchable than most other Doctor Who tales for some reason (ok I have a bit of a thing for Nyssa of Traken, but it's also cos I find Davison so watchable too). I don't get the bland thing at all.

By the way, I haven't yet seen any of this 'The Last Detective' yet. I never seemed to be home when it was on and I hadn't even heard of it til a Davison fan friend of mine mentioned it a while as being quality.

I'll have to check it out on DVD at some point if it's available.

Looks like it has just started with the pilot on 7(2) in Australia. The episode features Joanne Froggat who plays Anna Bates in Downton Abbey.
