This thread makes me LOL

Clearly you haven't watched Sympathy for Mr Vengeance.

"I believe the common character of the universe is not harmony, but hostility, chaos and murder."

@Dragon Eye

Sympathy for Mr Vengeance is a great film, but nowhere near as good (or depressing) as Suicide Club.

I thought it was hilarious. Does that mean I'm screwed up or something? I mean the amount of blood was ridiculous and all these WEIRD things keep happening that are just insane. My reaction was this was a black comedy but with important things to say about our society and especialy the youth. But man was I cracking up!

"Dead or living, statue or woman, shadow or body, her beauty was still the same."-Théophile Gautier

reply

It is very funny in a dark way, but still not enough to make me laugh (not that I can think of a film that has). But even with it's funny moments it's still an overall sad and depressing (and amazing!) film.

reply

I agree...it's extremely dark and affecting. The funny parts are disturbing because they are funny (if that makes sense). The movie concentrates on humanity's disillusionment with themselves, their society, and with death, and the fact that we find the funny moments funny are proof of its message.

I love this movie so much! It's funny, but the depression far outweighs the funniness.

reply

Did any of you actually watch this movie? The message at the end is nothing if not uplifting.

Its a happy ending, and the message of the film is about faith in yourself and perseverance.

reply

I'm glad somebody said it.

Did you guys notice how the girl did not kill herself? How she passed the little test?

reply

Yes! Not many people see that in the movie, but it really is meant to convey a sense of hope at the end and not one of dark depression.

reply

yeah it is a pretty depressing film

reply

why a downer? well i know why, but didn't the ending give you hope?
the last scene of her being in the crowd dressed like every other high school girl, - that was a pretty strong statement from the film makers.

reply

awee i cant believe they deleted the begining of this thread! so funny!

anyways, the ending gave me no comfort since it is not memorable whatsoever.

reply

Agreed it was pretty uplifting at the end, The Bridge is much worse because it's about real suicides mister.

If you don't believe in Jesus Christ and are 100% proud of it, put this in your sig.

reply

the bridge only covered a small percentage of suicides, and very few occur in comparison to other places. the suicides in suicide circle (group suicide, website suicide groups, how they're done, the number of people, etc) is just as common, and real, as what you see in "The Bridge."
the only reason bridge had any impact was because you see live footage of people jumping into the water and a bunch of unsympathetic family members reminiscing about it.

it's sad that people can't feel the pain of others (compassion) until it's an issue that directly affects them too.

reply

I actually really loved it, the overall message really resonated with me.

Now, if you'll excuse me, the father of the atomic bomb wants a saucer of milk.
