The role of Dessert in this film remided me of this episode which guest stars N-SYNC. Bart, Nelson, Ralph and Milhouse become part of a cheesy boy-band whose lyrics contain subliminal lyrics, intended to influence the wider population. Anyone else notice this similarity??

As a lifelong viewer of the show, and having seen this film only a few years after it was released, I initially drew the conclusion that the episode was a subtle reference to this film. However, while both the episode and the film were released in 2001, the Simpsons "New Kids on the Blecch" episode predated the film's release by 8 months.
