Exactly what does gringo mean in Portuguese? I've always thought it simply meant "white person" in Spanish (at least that's what most Spanish-speaking Americans use it for) and while I know Spanish and Portuguese are similar in some aspects I was wondering if the actual word had a different meaning. I mean I'm assuming Maiquel is Caucasian anyways. And why did he immediately flip out and think Suel was calling him a f@g?

Usually it means a white foreigner.
It might have come across as gayish due to the perception that some of these gringos are weakish.
yeah, I'm Colombian and it has the same meaning, not just Caucasian, just usually foreigner though usually white, not necessarily so, and most common for Americans, though Europeans too.
Another misconception is that "Gringo" is a derogatory term, which is not true, it's actually seen as that person is especial.
