the acting was dumb, the script was too, but i thought this was still an ambitious little action movie. the director managed to put in some cool action though the on location shots were nothing special. and the bomb in the train staion was hilarious! to kill that one guy seagal just HAD to send the whole station to hell! lol. when compared to other seagal movies it was average. just dont expect any "under siege" level action and fireworks. i bet this movie cost like $10000.
as for Mr. Oblowitz..i am guessing this is one of his first movies, but through some exprience he can become a good action director. cuz COMPARED TO TICKER THIS WAS AN AWARD WINNING MASTERPIECE. no kidding.
bottom line...seagal has already hit rock bottom and this is a considerable step up.

Yeah. That was REALLY stupid. Just think of those innocent people, that have died in there... (LOL). And that explosive package couldn't be enough to do such an explosion.

I didnt like it much either, except for that hot french red-head in the beginning, with the fake accent!
But didnt you notice how Jared just happened to have a cigarette or two in every scene, sheesh, its like he can't move without cigarettes.

This film was realy good and Steven Seagal was great as always!

I don't know. Theres somethin about the setting of this movie that makes it good.
In fact the only movie i didn't like with seagal was on deadly ground, but even that has some better points in it... but not many.

Having read the bad reviews I was pleasantly surprised, but I found the story hard to follow. I couldn't work out who people were working for, like "The Russians" for instance and the Synopsis above is misleaading. The package started in Athens with the Russians. So why were they delivering a Flight Recorder of a plane crash, and from whom? As far as the action scenes are concerned we have to accept that at the moment Directors are going through the "Digital Editing Craze" post "The Matrix". Hopefully they'll soon get over it and start concentrating on reality again, although I did enjoy most of the effects. Now I'm going to have to watch the film again to see if I can work out what it was all about. I had the same problem with "LA Confidential". I had to watch it six times, but I got there in the end.

At the end I was no wiser than at the start. Who were all the people and why. I do like some of Seagals films, that is why I kept getting them, although now I have stopped as they seem to have got progressively worse.
Have you ever seen anyone actually jump through a closed window, with a run never mind a standing jump - glass, wood, metal locks - needs Superman.
Also why can the good guy always kill with a handgun from 10's of yards away whilst the baddies can't hit a barn door with enormous machine guns at hundreds of rounds per minute. Even when they have the chance of a clean safe shot from yards away why do they always come within grabbing distance first.
I know it is only entertainment, but it has to have some semblance of common sense. (How many times does it take to kill one guy - and is he actually dead yet ???)

Hi Grahame

>At the end I was no wiser than at the start.

I agree the story was complicated. I had to watch it again slowly, freeze-framing and writing down people’s names as I went, but it was worth the effort.

>Who were all the people and why. I do like some of Seagals films, that is why I kept getting them, although now I have stopped as they seem to have got progressively worse.

I agree. He seems to have got sloppy in his old age.

>I agree and the volume of bullets being fired is ridiculous at times.

>I agree. It’s not even entertaining when it lacks common sense. It just become irritating. I would recommend that you go over the plot again though. It all makes sense and is really clever once you work it out, but God knows how anybody is supposed to work it out by watching it just once in the cinema. I guess they want you to go straight out and buy the DVD.

yes, its fine, no problem with that

Hilarious. Just caught this movie on TV. Full of absolutely classic moments. From the ultra low budget feel - I mean I think I could have funded it - to the fantastic cast of total non entities. I'd be deeply embarassed to have made this turkey, I can't imagine what depths Seagal must have arrived at to even consider it. I love the fact the plot makes no sense, in the main because it is so poorly directed, and not insignificantly because you are so disinterested in the characters you don't really care what happens. It is just about waiting to see how everyone dies. You also can't help but laugh at the fact that SS's silencer is plainly crooked on his gun throughout and in some scenes they obviously ran out of cash to pay for squibs (notably when the husband guy gets mown down)etc. It's a cracker. I think it might beat out Millenium as my worst film. Come on Stevie boy, show us how bad it can get...

reply

I just watched the movie. It was played on the TV.

I don't understand Stevie. He must be some kind of genious in order to make every new movie worse than the previous one.

I really liked his older movies (Under Diege is one of my favourite action movies), but now I think he has reached the bottom.

Well, not the bottom. In my opinion, he would reach the bottom if he played in a movie with Christof Lambert. That would be a good one.

I actually didn't think that the Foreigner was too bad despite how terrible people say that it is. Yeah sure, the plot was a little confusing but this movie is far better than a 2.7/10. I just saw Out of Reach, a Seagal movie that came out like a year or two ago, in January and that movie was not only godawful and one of the worst movies Ive ever seen. Yet, people rated Out of Reach a 3.6/10. The Foreigner was much better than Out of Reach despite what people say. And I actually dont care that Seagal doesnt show his aikido skills as much in The Foreigner. It actually looks kind of stupid sometimes when he does his aikido now because hes old and fat now, unlike his younger, slimmer self in his late 80s, early 90s "classics" like Above The Law, Hard To Kill, Out For Justice, and Under Siege. It just looked better when Seagal kicked butt in his first 5 movies, his early movies, which everyone knows are his best movies. I think I really need to quit listening to peoples opinions and stop avoiding movies just because most people think they are bad. It seems like for me, a lot of movies that I watch that people say are terrible turn out much better than they say, and a lot of movies that people love turn out to be kind of overrated. I avoid movies for long periods of time just because most other people hate them and the movies turn out to be much better. That happens to me ALL of the time! I've finally made up my mind to use common sense from now on and just watch a movie when I want to, and not avoid it because people say that they are bad.

reply

I agree. I thought this film was actually quite good. I liked the Eastern European locations which gave the film a different look and I also thought the film was nicely photographed and scored. Not great, but much better than OUT FOR A KILL and OUT OF REACH.

reply

I completly agree with you Kurohambe.......out of reach and out for a kill were laughably bad

Why don't you get rid of that review calling it 'a great little thriller' then?

reply

I agree with the OP. Because it was totally incomprehensive, bad-acted, stupid, unrealistic and low budget it was fun to watch!

The plot holes, violence and action were all hilarious. It was a long time since I laughed so hard at a movie. Brilliant. The scene with the train station is utterly unrealistic, while the story and where it takes places is utterly incomprehensive. Where are they and why? And why did the maid get shot?

This movie is good fun! Don’t expect to understand anything.
