ABC Family Utopia Idea

Some ideas:

Roy Disney needs to change ABC Family to TGI Family. There, that eliminates The WB's Degrassi wanna-be shows from the channel.

The reason for TGI Family is because Pat Robertson, who still owns part of the channel, has a clause that the word "family" is never allowed to be off the name of the channel (20 years ago, it was The Family Channel, and remember a lame Super Mario Bros. sitcom being on). I also think that The 700 Club (WTF does "700" stand for?) needs to be limited, and from my research, there isn't an clause from Robertson about that, so if ABC Family wanted to air The 700 Club (WTF does "700" stand for?) from 3 AM to 5 AM, so be it!

Here are a few links, then I'll continue:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TGIF_%28ABC%29

http://imdb.com/title/tt0312324/

This is what I think the channel should be (weekends are easy, just movies):

5 AM - Silly Symphonies

6 AM - Quack Pack
- Darkwing Duck
7 AM - DuckTales
- Rescue Rangers
8 AM - TaleSpin
- Gummie Bears
9 AM - ReBoot
- Lilo & Stitch
10 AM - Full House
- Two of a Kind
11 AM - So Little Time
- S Club 7
12 PM - Perfect Strangers
- Family Matters
1 PM - Hangin' with Mr. Cooper
- [rotating one season ABC TGIF sitcoms (i.e. Teen Angel, etc.)]
2 PM - Aladdin
- The Little Mermaid
3 PM - The Lion King
- The Emperor's New Groove
4 PM - Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?
- The Real Ghostbusters
5 PM - Boy Meets World
- Dinosaurs
6 PM - Sledge Hammer!
- Home Improvement
7 PM - Grounded for Life
- Weird Science
8 PM - *

9 PM - *

10 PM - Whose Line is It Anyways? (British Version)
- Whose Line is It Anyways? (American Version)
11 PM - [rotating one season ABC dramas (i.e. My So-Called Life, etc.)]

12 AM - The Flash (CBS Version)

1 AM - Lois & Clark

2 AM - Batman (Adam West Version)
- Batman (Adam West Version)
3 AM - The 700 Club

4 AM - [other Pat Robertson shows]

*Original "TGI" Family shows. Mon. and Thurs. are for dramas, Tues., Weds., and Fridays for sitcoms. Based on original ABC sch. before "reality" TV and bad "Euro" game shows took over.

That is an amazing idea, I think that is the perfect line-up. And seriously, what does "700" stand for?!?

reply

fabulous idea! only things i would add....flash forward and the torkelsons. too amazing, though not TGIF shows but rather Disney shows that don't get enough credit.

reply

Yeah, I mean, the weekends don't have to be all movies, and the sitcoms could switch to every other day, and leave fridays open for more new stuff.

keep the ideas and suggestions flowing, it's a start. ABC Family needs new programming, seriously. I don't want to see the Tanners anymore, or Whose Line, which I'm not laughing at anymore.

As a teenager that's what I remember watching, The Torkelsons and Flash Forward! I'm sure I didn't watch them as much as I think I did, but they should definitely be added to SOMEONE's line-up... somewhere!

"In 1962, the station suffered financially and almost closed. To keep the station on the air, WYAH decided to produce a special telethon edition of the show. For the telethon, Robertson set a goal of 700 members each contributing $10 a month, which was enough to support the station. Robertson referred to these members as the '700 Club' and the name stuck."

Found that to answer you question

Weekend mornings could be replays of ABC's One Saturday Morning and the Disney Afternoon, then the movies could start. Something like this I think.

5 AM - The Schnookums and Meat Funny Cartoon Show
- Bonkers
6 AM - Gargoyles
- Goof Troop
7 AM - Recess
- Jungle Cubs
8 AM -Sabrina: The Animated Series
- Doug
9 AM - The Weekenders
- Pepper Ann
10 AM -101 Dalmatians: The Series
- Science Court/Squigglevision
11 AM - House of Mouse
- Marsupilami
12 PM - Movies

I was thinking that. Maybe ditch the movies altogether and have non-repeated during the week ABC shows from the past, including cartoons from 5 AM till 5 PM, to really keep kids occupied. And no Toon Disney stuff or Jetix, I mean original, but from the past, ABC cartoons.

Thanks for adding.

I'd add Teen Angel and You Wish to the lineup. Man I wish this would happen. Sadly it's only a pipe dream. :*(

Those are on the list, if you re-read it. It goes to the place for the one season shows to rotate over and over again till the end of time.

OOh add Ready or Not to the line-up, not technically a disney show but the disney channel played it for like two years.

And ABOVE all include somewhere in there DINOSUARS!

And Road to Avonlea!

And Eerie, Indiana!

OH NO, it would HAVE to have movies! A movie line up of thee great disney movies of the 80's and 90's like Newsies, Wild Hearts Can't be Broken, White Fang, And You Thought Your Parents Were Weird, Return to Oz, Honey I Shrunk the Kids I and II, The Shaggy Dog(1994 one), Hocus Pocus, The Journey of Natty Gann, Dance Till Dawn, Camp Cucamonga, Kidz in the Wood, Born Free II, Summertime Switch, White Wolves: A Cry in the Wild II, Swing Kids, To My Daughter with Love, Not Quite Human, Susie Q, etc

Dinosaurs in on at 5:30 PM on the sch.

Eerie, Indiana has nothing to do with ABC, so it's a bit of stretch.

Also, if you read carefully, I wrote at some time during the middle of the day a block for rotating shows, which can include anything.

also, movies are for the entire weekend line up. 42 hrs. of movies, 24 different movies 4 hrs. have to go to the 700 club

reply

By the way their is a clause that makes the the Family Channle/Fox Family/ABC Family air The 700 Club in the moning and late night, originaly was suppose to air at 10AM and 10 PM in a 2 hr block but ABC Family was able to air it later at night by agreeing to air Living With? in the AM block.

Trust me if it was not in the agreement they would not air it, not only do they not get advertising money for 3 hrs a day, it also causes the flow of the channle to be off, I know that if I was waching the channle in the morning that I would most definately change the channle when Pat Robinson comes on the air begging for $$$.

I don't mean to necro-post, but I couldn't just *not* respond this.

I honestly think this is a wonderful, fantabulous, incredibly incredible idea. I know the tweenie generation brings ABC/Disney lots of money so they need to focus on that. But what about the rest of the population? The 20-40 year old's who grew up watching TGIF and other quality TV line-ups are missing out. We're stuck with crappy choices in programming: Desperate Housewives? LOST? Seriously.. what happened to quality programming?

If it were possible, I'd totally pitch this idea to ABC (not me personally, but "I'd" being used as a generic term). It would only bring them more money; they don't really have to spend all that much because they're not creating new shows.. just re-airing old ones. Essentially it would be TV Land, but the shows would be a bit more modern. Hell, if Starz! and HBO can have 500 channels each, why not ABC... Disney owns half the freakin' planet anyway. It's not like they don't have any money to spare on something like this.

Anywhoo.. that's my two cents.
