Does anyone else think Karen Stottlemeyer is a selfish bitch?

That's it. Just wondering.

I could not stand her! I was so glad when they divorced. I always felt she treated him so badly. Poor Stottlemeyer had so much bad luck in love afterwards though.

reply

Maybe.

But at the same time, Leland was grumpy and married to his job. In one episode, when another cops acts like he's having an affair with Karen, Leland instantly believes him and acts jealous. Where was the trust? In another episode, Karen has made a documentary which was important to her, and Leland hadn't watched it for a long time claiming to be too busy. So he wasn't perfect either.

Because Leland Stottlemeyer was a main character, and Karen only really guested, we got to like Leland and look past his shortcomings. His aggressive manner was often played for laughs, so made him more endearing. We never had this opportunity with Karen.

I took them as two people who had an unsuccessful marriage. Not that one person was at fault and not the other.

I know that real estate agent turned out to be a bad egg, but what about his next love? He originally though she was suspicious, but then didn't. I think they got married?

He didn't instantly believe him. The reason he entertained the notion that the guy might be telling the truth is because Karen had already behaved suspiciously, and lied about her whereabouts at least once that Leland knew about. The smoke was already there before the other cop claimed to be having an affair.

A complete selfish bitch. She starts seeing a divorce attorney before she even talks to Leland about the status of their relationship, meaning she intends to screw him over in the divorce proceedings. And when Leland asks her why, she replies something like "because you have to ask why". No, sorry, that makes no sense. Relationships are about communication, and communication is a two-way street. If he has to ask why, that means she has failed to communicate what was wrong. Leland clearly loved Karen, but I see no evidence that this was mutual.

Karen was an unpleasant person from the very first moment she appeared, but the implication after her first episode seemed to be that she and Leland loved each other and were going to show each other more appreciation in the future. I was rather disappointed she turned out to be such a mega bitch and it wasn't entertaining either.

reply

Yes she was. Plus, Stottlemeyer was my favorite character.

reply

I don't know, I can't get past her horribly obnoxious voice. It's impossible to take her seriously.
