Silliest Episodes/Situations?

We watched this when it originally aired, and have just watched them all again on Amazon. Almost all of the episodes are very entertaining, many are even touching But a few here and there are just too silly to take.

One of the silliest story elements that comes to mind is the one where Natalie becomes the Lottery Girl. Overnight, she becomes a HUGE celebrity, hounded by a handful of fans ("what's your favorite number?") I get that this is a comedy/mystery, but really...

Production-wise, I find the weakest ones are the ones that require "big" production values. For example, the rock concert episode where they had to create a "big" outdoor concert, or the one at the football stadium where they staged a (really lame) taligate party. Any scene where there are dozens of extras all directed to "get into the music,' or "pretend your at a real tailgate party and have a good time."

Overall, I'd say this is one of my top 10 favorite shows. It'd be a few positions higher except for the stinkers sprinkled throughout.

Natalie as "The Lottery Girl" was unrealistic. Aside from her becoming a big celebrity overnight, her behavior was so unlike her. She became a huge prima donna in a week, demanding special treatment and yelling at people who had worked there for years. I can't believe her personality would change so radically in a few days.

I also think any time Natalie is referred to as beautiful is unrealistic too. I think she was a nice looking woman. She had a nice figure. But sometimes they gushed over her like she was a great beauty. I thought Sharona was much prettier.

In "Mr Monk and the Three Julies", Julie, Natalie's daughter, behaves like a self centered brat. Several women named Julie Teeger were killed and Natalie was naturally scared for her daughter and wanted her to stay home until they found the killer.

But little Julie could only whine and carry on about taking her driving test. Yeah, like it couldn't be taken at a later date! You'd think she would have not wanted to cause her mother any more anguish.

Then, at the end of the episode, she is seen riding up in a shiny new car that her mother bought her. Monk said something like, "Your mom gave in" and Julie said, "She always does".

I wanted to slap the smirk off her face. What a brat. Natalie was clearly on a budget. She often complained that Mr. Monk did not pay her well. But she immediately runs out and buys a new car for a kid whose license is one week old? And the insurance on a new vehicle like that? Wow It made no sense. Natalie talked about "clipping coupons", then buys her brat of a kid a new car.

Sincerely, i don't expect TV shows to make this much sense. It's a comedy, and Monk had been going on over quite a few seasons. You run out of stuff to do ! So unless an episode is egregiously over-the-top, I just try to enjoy it and not think too much about it.
I thought Natalie was prettier than Sharona, but Sharona had a much different persona than Natalie, so I don't have any interest in promoting one over the other. I'd much rather watch Julie than whoever Shar's son was, although I think Monk did have a bonding episode with the boy, and that's a good thing.

I agree that Julie was rather annoying. She was spoiled and had little personality, but was still pushed on us all the time like she was so incredibly beautiful and smart. And the actress playing her was not very good. I preferred Benji, who was just an average boy who felt both admiration and embarrassment for Monk.

It's been a long time since I've watched Monk, but the silliest one I can recall is where Stanley Tucci's character is a method actor who gets so into playing the role of Monk that he holds a killer hostage.
Then again, maybe if some like Daniel Day Lewis played such a part, they'd go that far.

The monkey episode.

Gee, I love the monkey episode! It IS silly but it makes me laugh so much when the chimp destroys Monk's apartment and Adrian has a total break from reality.

The one I skip over is the outdoor rock concert when Captain Stottlemeyer is looking for his kid who skipped school. It's just boring to me.

That singer reminded me of Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam.
