Last 3 seasons.Trudy's death storyline-

I watched this series from beginning to end and also have the pleasure of witnessing it on DVD and because of such, I honestly don't really remember or enjoy the last three seasons. I loved Leland and TK and Randy and Sharona (I honestly would have preferred him with Natalie myself) but I dunno....I remember back at the end of Season 2 when Monk got information from Dale the Wale about Trudy, I was excited for that mystery to contuine and eventually reach its climax and when it did at long last in season 8, I honestly didn't care for or about it anymore. I felt it was dragged out way too long- from seasons one through six, with dealing with Trudy's death, there were hints and clues sprinkled here and there throughout and I enjoyed that- (I was looking forward to the Season 4 finale Mr Monk Gets Jury Duty because I thought it would shine some insight into Trudy's death with Monk being on the jury for the parking garage debate where Trudy was killed- and it didn't- total fail on the writer's part/even later on in the series there were flashbacks of Monk and Sharona in the parking garage where Monk is stating that there might be more evidence and that never went anywhere- this episode could have been a gold mine opportunity for the writers to bring that up ahead of time, foreshadowing per-say, and they didn't- why even have him mention that when all the evidence ended up being on the video tape that was unveiled in the series finale?) - it built up the momentum and suspense for her death to finally and truly be resolved and when at long last it was, I honestly felt that it fell flat. Now don't get me wrong, I loved Molly and I loved the fact that like Natalie told Monk in the series finale, that Monk would have someone now to love forever, but I felt that they could have done....something with ending the series. Sure, we get Randy moving in with Sharona and moving away I believe (It's been awhile since I watched The End 1&2 so I don't really remember how everyone's storylines were wrapped up) and Natalie ending up with Lt Albright and Leland with TK but all we were left with was them going into police HQ to solve another mystery. Just another mystery, another day. More often than not, in series finales, there is indication that the characters are moving onward with their lives- I never got that feeling when I watched the last few episodes. I honestly felt this show should have ended with Season 5- the only episodes I enjoyed in Season 6 were 'Mr Monk Joins a Cult' and 'Mr Monk is On The Run P1 & P2" and literally, that's it. I never watch Seasons 6, 7 and 8; I have them to complete my MONK collection because when I own a TV or movie DVD set, I don't care if I don't enjoy some episodes or moments or not; I have to have the full complete package or else it feels incomplete- also I may grow to enjoy the last 3 seasons one day in due time; it's doubtful but it may indeed happen. I really wish Andy Breckman had kept up with the writing that he had done prior to the final 3 seasons- because this show could have gone out on top had it been done properly-and for me, it didn't and wasn't- and it's a true shame.

Yes, it's obvious they just stretched out Trudy's storyline, which did it no good. I'm not even sure if the writers even knew how it was going to end. The story became too contrived and the finale wasn't entirely satisfying. I feel most shows shouldn't continue after season 5. This show also started to decline after season 4, and I agree it would've been better had they ended it with season 5.

Andy Breckman himself never intended to solve the Trudy murder

Well, there you go. It definitely felt that way, especially in later seasons. Thanks for the link.
