Why doesn't monk carry a gun or gloves?

He should have a gun for all the times he got in trouble. He wouldn't need wipes with gloves.

Maybe he just doesn't like guns? Though this has been a problem for these type of whodunnit shows for years, Jessica Fletcher from Murder She Wrote used to do confront the killers without a weapon, and they would try to kill her before the police would conveniently show up.

Gloves I think would feel clammy on Monk's hands, and I imagine would play with his OCD a bit.

I never really though of that, but:

He had a gun when he was a detective, and he may still have one in his home, but he may not feel he needs to carry one as a consultant. Maybe a gun might make the people that he works for feel uneasy.

I think he doesn't use gloves may be because a lot of his fears/phobias/whatevers are psychological. And wearing gloves in kinda gross.

I think if you're gonna carry a gun, you have to be willing to use it. I mean, Monk gets taken captive quite a lot to the point that you'd think he'd realize that if he's going to confront someone and accuse him of murder, it'd be better to make sure there's a cop with a badge in the same room, just in case.

I have a few fanfics and Monk carries a gun in them (as does Natalie), and they do actively use lethal force on several occasions.

Also, in the Monk novel, Mr. Monk on Patrol, they both carry guns.

I thought he had a gun in a lock box. In the episode where they were making a movie of the astronaut case, the actor who played Monk, turned into Monk and took the gun (he figured out the combination, Trudy's birthday.
