I don't understand how Steve Wagner's killing his ex girlfriend prevents her book from being published which was his motive.For one thing, it appears it's a done deal. The book appears to already be in the galleys and she has been paid. Any money she would make would probably go to whoever inherits from her and, for another, it seems to me that her being a murder victim would actually make the book become wildly popular.

It seems that this wasn't the final draft. A publisher MIGHT publish a first or second draft of a book, but it's not likely. It seems he took the hard drive with the latest draft on it, but in my opinion, in the real world with the scandal of her death, they may have just had it published "as is" and include her 'suicide" tacked on and written by another author.

She told Steve that her publisher made her rewrite it to include the "juicy" stuff and she hadn't shown him this draft yet. She wanted to show it to Steve first.
