Confusing

I watched more than an hour of Heimat 3, and slowly started to conclude that it was akin to walking into a movie half-way through. I just couldn't get oriented. The scenery and photography were spectacular, but this three-part 'series' was a massive undertaking (almost 10 HOURS?) involving many different characters and spanning at least two generations. I'm going to watch this from the beginning and see if I can make better sense of the whole thing. There are episodic TV programs converted to film that 'stand by themselves,' but Heimat doesn't appear to follow that pattern. Anyone else feel that way?

Groggo, did you watch series I and/or series II?
(Heimat II is my personal favourite - by far! - although I know some, perhaps many, would disagree.)

I suppose it is perfectly possible to watch each of the series as a stand-alone - which they most definitely are - or "out of sequence".
Certainly that goes for I and II. (I saw H II long before I ever watched the original Heimat.)
But this one... I am not so sure.
I think one has to have at least a passing acquaintance with the main characters to really get into it.
(And even then it can be somewhat disappointing.)
