A cop in Gotham City don't know who Batman is..
This is a pretty decent series in my opinion, but i hate the fact that nobody knows who Batman is, he has been gone for many years, but still. Make no sense
shareI didn't think it was that decent. This show could have been good and had alot of potential if it had a chance to find it's feet with a few more seasons and better writers. The point I'm trying to make is that these writers didn't seem to know what they were doing. I think the fact that so many people look down on BoP can be blamed on them. It was just so monotonous and seemed like a huge chunk of dialogue was just written in to fill time. Luckily, they had a really strong story to draw from with alot of followers being a Batman spin off. But I feel it could have been so much more had more capable people been in charge of the writing. To me BoP had cult classic potential that was thrown away by lazy writers. That's my opinion. Like you said, It made no sense at all and showed that the producers and writers of the show not only didn't read any BoP Comics but also didn't read any Batman comics as well which would explain why no one ever heard of Batman on the police force in Gotham. Where the hell is Commissioner Jim Gordon? If they wanted to combine Pre and Post Crisis, that's absolutely fine but they should have gotten rid of the metahuman nonsense, I mean this is Birds of Prey, not Mutant X.
The idea of the Birds and Oracle herself was great but The Bat Embargo made things very difficult as it made no sense for Batman not to be around one of his closet friends and his daughter. Batman would never leave Gotham - at least without making sure someone he trusted was protecting it. I mean where was Nightwing and Robin?
Smallville was never allowed to use Batman and Wonder Woman, but, got around it by using Green Arrow (and I think this worked out better) so I'm sure BoP could have come up with a better way to explain Batman's absense. That is my only problem with this show.
Still I've never seen a TV show like Birds of Prey that betrays the source material so badly. I don't know who the writers for this show were, but they really stink at their job. The dialogue is just stupid and some of the plot and character developments are so ridiculously idiotic is just enough to make this show pretty much unwatchable. I think this is why Birds of Prey wasn't so well received.
I totally agree, this had so much potential. I don't know what's worst. Alfred being Barbra's uncle in Batman&Robin, or Jim Gorden not getting mention at all. Barbra mentioned Dick,Jason and Tim once, where the hell are they?
I know... Oh i almost forgot, Harley Quinn in this show was so far removed from the "true" Harley (the animated series version will always be what I consider to be the ultimate portrayal of Miss Quinn) that they might has well have given her another name, since she was pretty much a whole different character anyway. I get the impression by the very generic "costume" at the end of the series that she hasn't fully embraced her "Harley Quinn" persona. I wonder what Paul Dini thinks of this since they butchered his character beyond recognition for this show. I think the writers really bombed on the whole explanation.
Helena really should have just been a 'metahuman' not Half metahuman, plain and simple and this show had neither style nor substance. Huntress not wearing a mask or at least a better disguise when she went out fighting crime at night so anyone who saw her during the day would instantly recognize her makes it too hard for the audience to suspend belief. I could go on, and on, and on.

shareI wouldn't say Birds of prey is average at best if it was so poorly made. This show was pretty horrible all together. The writing was ridiculously putrid, laughable even in some episodes. I watched it when it was on the air and I wish I had not. The acting ranged from ok to terrible. They couldn't even do the stunt work correctly so you can add poor directing to the list as well. It was pretty embarrassing over all and deserved to be cancelled. If it had come out this year it wouldn't have made it past four episodes before it would be cancelled. Still BIRDS OF PREY failed because of both a contemptuous attitude toward the source material and a pretty extreme shortage of talent behind the camera. Instead of trying to create a plausible environment or ground the characters and events or build around any sort of strong core concept, the series has just gotten more absurd and less coherent with each episode and anyone who thinks this show is great, can't be the smartest person on the planet.

I do think "Gotham" is better, (even though it's a completely unfair comparison considering the only thing they have in common is that they're both Batman related shows, and that's where the comparisons end) but I still love this show too.
