Disappointment

Some while ago I decided to go watch this movie with some friends because it had such high ratings on imdb. We watched it, kind of appreciated it, but for no more than a strong 6, perhaps a weak 7, it wasn't more to it than that... That was the opinion of all of us!

So, I was just wondering who else found this movie quite as disappointing as we did? I'm looking through topics in which, probably die-hard W&G-fans, all very cheesy say that this is the 'greatest', 'hilarious', 'fantastic' etc. (animated) movie!
I'm getting the impression the high rating back then was just because a lot of fans decided to strike imdb together, all giving 10s, to get it into the top 250... What do you, objective moviewatchers think?

Oh and by the way, I really do like English humour and many other kinds of it, just not the not-funny, cliché and TOO British lame humour. And, yep, I think Wallace & Gromit contained too much of that childish content.

you probably need to watch all the movies...in order...to appreciate the series for what it truly is

I think it’s a shame you didn’t enjoy the film, have you seen any of the shorts?
If you want to get a better taste of Wallace & Gromit you could rent Wallace & Gromit in Three Amazing Adventures and then make your decision. I can understand not finding all of content humorous. There is a lot of redundancy especially about cheese. It may also be that this type of British humor isn’t your cup of tea. I love Wallace & Gromit but I didn’t like Chicken Run at all and it was done by the same people. I feel that you have to be able to take Wallace & Gromit very lightly, especially since the majority of the dialog is coming from Wallace. I enjoy Gromit much more, he is obviously the brains of the duo, he is very sarcastic but you only get that from his mannerisms. I like to watch Gromit deal with all of Wallace’s follies, Gromit is Wallace’s best friend and also his care taker. In a way it’s a bit like Inspector Gadget, where his dog Brain is always fixings Inspector Gadget’s mistakes, solving the crimes but never getting and credit for in. The HUGE different between Inspector Gadget and Wallace & Gromit is the humor is of a higher caliber and if watched closely directed much more for adults.
Wallace & Gromit may be an acquired taste, I didn’t much like the first short “A Grand Day out” when I first watched it, but after watching the rest of the films I came to understand the humor and then re watched “A Grand Day Out” and found it really funny. I hope you will give the other shorts a chance, they are also making a new film “Trouble at the Mill” that I believe will be out late next year.
You don’t have to like Wallace & Gromit , everybody enjoys them for different reasons, and I especially love British humor. I just hope you give the others a try before making your final decision.

I really liked the Wallace & Gromit short films and even Chicken Run, but I hated the Wllace & Gromit movie. Even Flushed Away was better than this.

such an obvious joke. I'm sure it's been done before, but lol at it's execution.

I am a fan of Wallace and Gromit. Maybe not die hard, but still a fan, non the less.

I have to say that I agree with the comment here above, where it is says that you probably would need to have seen the shorts before this movie. I first saw the shorts when I was about 12 years old and loved them, could watch them again and again.

I will admit that I watched this movie the first time, and was expecting a little more. Wasn't really sure what to think of it. But then I watched it the second time, and it got better. I understood the jokes better the second time and appreciated the movie in whole a lot better. I think that the first time I watched it, it was a little in the way as if I was a critic, insted of just enjoying the artwork that this stop-animation is.

To summon it all up, I liked the movie. I like the "over the top" british humor, which is in a way the style of Wallace and Gromit and defines them. The film is wonderfully made and I like the voices of Peter Sallis, Helena Bonham Carter and especially the voice of Ralph Fiennes, who is hilarious as Victor.

I would say it is about 8/10.

This was most likely the best movie I saw in 2005. Not at all disappointing, in fact far better than expected.

Affection for the characters and the quality of the shorts only goes so far, and taken as either part of the series or as a standalone, I thought this was a hopelessly overlong and almost completely laugh-free trip to the well too many. Aardman had originally been making a version of The Tortoise and the Hare but when it became clear it wasn’t working stopped production and made this instead. Unfortunately it seems painfully clear that this wasn’t such a good idea either. It looks like a weak idea for a half hour episode rushed into production without much thought, rather tediously drawn out to three times that length with little of the imagination that made the shorts work so well. Characters are poorly developed, jokes few and far between, opportunities are missed at every turn and only Julian Nott’s music really distinguishes itself. Poor show, Wallace.

Yeah! I mean all they did was play computer games for 4 years and then in the final year they realised "Hey we got to finish this film."
