Can anybody say... Matrix?

I don't know about you guys, but i think the guy who made this film saw Matrix too many times. This is a bad copy of matrix. Whe they realize that Neville is really an AI program and they have to beat the in Shock (or the matrix).... come on! be a little original!
It isn't a BAD movie per se, it's ok, it's just not believeable at all.

First off, I'm not trying to be rude nor am I trying to ridicule you in any way. I'm just adding in my two cents on the topic.

TBH, when I first saw the movie, I was thinking that it was an homaging/spoofing Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games or the whole concept of video game all together. I mean, it is mentioned that kids are staying up in the late hours of the night playing it, sort of a reflection on how there are massive fans of MMORPGs like EverQuest that play the game for hours online. Another thing was the making bets amongst players thing, which I am not sure if real gamers do, but wouldn't seem to far off base. If anything, it was poking fun at the cyberpunk genre (which also deals with technology, government, hackers or misfits who do not seem to fit with normal society). Besides, "The Matrix" borrowed a lot of stuff from the cyberpunk genre, including stuff from "Neuromancer" by William Gibson (the man behind the term "cyberspace"). There's a lot of movies and TV shows I could list that uses some of the things that "The Matrix" features even before there was a "Matrix". IMHO, it was all there before "The Matrix" came out in a wide variety of variations, so there's no reason why it should stop being used after "The Matrix". If anything, "The Matrix" inspired a wide resurgence of Hong Kong action films in Hollywood, seeing that there are a lot of movies that have come out using wire-work in the same sense of the Hong Kong style of wire-working that the Wachowski Brothers were inspired by and used in "The Matrix".

Of course, that's my opinion. I could be wrong. Sorry if the text implies that I am being harsh, it is not my intention to be harsh or rude sounding in any way. Have a nice day. :)

tron sucks. matrix is definetly not a rip off of that

The young and uninformed seem to think that what they know is the whole world. The Matrix didn't come up with the idea of virtual reality. Cyberpunk books have been doing this sort of storyline since the 80's. Niven's Dreampark pre-dates them by a few years.

This reminds me of those who call The Thirteenth Floor a matrix rip-off even though the book that movie is based on was written in 1973.

This movie has more in common with the book Snow Crash than the movie the Matrix as the Matrix didn't really have a cyber-chat.

I think its a fact that Matrix (a script idea stolen by the Wachowskis) is a series of movies that despite some praise and some criticism, every movie after that that deals with computers, AI, codes, etc. will be compared to the Matrix.

You should ask yourself if maybe you saw Matrix too many times to point out connections. Even if you haven't, I think its still odd how you base your connection from this movie to the Matrix when there are many things that aren't similar. It seems you are just making the obvious connections which is technological type things which isn't a fair base to judge it on.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not dogging on you or anything. It just that you can draw connections to any movie that deal with similar situations.

You're correct about the Matrix connections. For instance, the fax machine uses the same sound effect as the Matrix telephones, a highly unusual ringing tone. Running through the halls in the game during the first couple of scen sequences was totally Matrix as well. Then there's the phone "booth"...
Yes the creators/directors definitely played bits off Matrix.

The Biggest direct matrix rip I saw was when neville was walking towards nick talking about "you set me free" like when Smith was talking towards Neo in the park type thing before the big battle in reloaded

WARNING: angry rant

I don't know about anyone else, but I for one am getting sick of the 'rip-off' accusations floating about the net. Any cyberpunk movie is a Matrix rip-off. Any RPG is a Diablo rip-off (my favorite accusation was that World of Warcraft was a Diablo rip-off; I laughed for a good hour). We as a society have created so many works that some are bound to resemble others (in fact, that's essentially the definition of 'genre'/categorization). Any time there is one specific work that becomes extremely popular, anything else that bears resemblance seems to eventually be accused of being a 'rip-off'. Granted, there is the odd time when a work is a rip-off of another, but for the most part there are enough relevant differences that you can consider both unique.

Let's take the example of The Matrix. As others have noted, there were similar works that came before (neuromancer, I have no mouth and I must scream, quite a few works by Philip K. Dick, etc). The Matrix, specifically, was apparently dreamed up by the Wachowski Brothers while they were watching the anime movie adaptation of the manga comic Ghost in the Shell (which would, by 'rip-off' logic, make The Matrix a rip-off of Ghost in the Shell). In my view, the 'rip-off' label is tossed about before any clear thought is put into comparing the relevant similarities and relevant differences.

I feel better now. The urge to scream, curse, and imply complete stupidity are fading now. I hereby apologize to all for this. I know most anyone who reads this is probably thinking "What's his problem?". I know I would be.

Well ranted braden-18...
When enyone mentions Matrix I always think of LAIN. There aren't really any original ideas anymore, pretty much everything has been done; but there are original ways to USE ideas.

As much as I always enjoyed Matrix, its obvious to anyone that its a little bit of Gibson and a bit more of TRON with a smattering of LAIN thrown in for good measure. This doesn't belittle Matrix itself though, because its USE of these ideas makes an entertaining movie.

Often people forget that movies are ENTERTAINMENT and that we are not meant to fight over them but just to enjoy them.

Strange things are afoot at the circle-K.
