Sean Hayes was hilarious!

He made me laugh so much! lol. His character is just like Jack's in Will & Grace though.

Uh, I didn't see that the character he was playing as being anything like Jack on Will & Grace. The guy he was playing here was a mean-spirited obnoxious bore. Jack is more silly and carefree and a free spirit. Jack is likable. This guy was nasty. I didn't even know he was in this movie when I rented it. It was nice to see him playing a different part other than Jack though. I hope to see him in more stuff.

I had a preconceived notion of what he character was going to be. I thought he was going to be this lonely man who never really had any visitors but was ultimately kindhearted and was able to connect with April on some level. I was just turned off when he turned out to be a prick. Hayes did a fine job though . He was probably the only character I didn't like. And I'm aware we weren't supposed to like him, but I just didn't like the addition of that character, or the fact that they made him unlikable.

I think they did that with his character because it's like a standard type of person living in an apartment building. You know, she was going around and knocking on doors in her building and it just stands to reason that there's that one neighbor who is extremely unlikable, like everyone has that one nasty person living in their neighborhood or in their building.

See I didn't see him as nasty at all... I saw him as a lonely man who never really talks to anyone because he can't relate to anyone...and when he feels like he can with April she mocks him and makes fun of him "Tick tock *chuckle*" deal... and then he realizes she's like everyone else and doesn't understand him and just makes fun of him like everyone else, that's why he gets all hostile and "nasty" as you put it. I actually felt quite bad for his character.

I thought he was a horrible character who stuck out like a sore thumb in an otherwise tight script.

I thought April should take that potato peeler and lop off one of his legs, and staple it to the turkey. Fair is fair!

I agree. She didn't seem very grateful at all. She disregarded his helpful hints, which perhaps were a little annoying & may have been him trying to show off or seem more knowledgable but she could have at least been patient & listened. She then mocked him. I would have been pee'd off with her too.

The only character you didn't like? I thought the obnoxiously competitive, goody-two-shoes sister was worse. I *so* wanted to smack her, multiple times. Particularly when she was looking all smug in the diner because she thought she'd "won".

I, too, found Beth (I think that was her name) the most unbearable of all. Her perfectionist persona and her needing to constantly put April down so she could feel superior....well, I just wanted to beat her with the other drumstick.

Sean's character was the typical eccentric. The one who is a loner and relates more to his dog than people (I can relate). It wasn't until
April made fun of him that he turned nasty. But not really nasty. If he wanted to be REALLY nasty, he would have taken April's turkey out right after that incident and leave it at her door. I could be wrong, but I think he let it continue to cook up until the time he gave it back to her.

Maybe he reminded her of her sister, and that's why she mocked him. A know-it-all.

Beth was the worst for me as well. So manipulative, always wanting to be the good child and be the center of attention. Barf.

I loved him! Was his character at the dinner in the last scene?

reply

No.

I think it was April's fault that Wayne (Sean Hayes) kidnapped her turkey. She was so rude and ungrateful to him when he came down to recommend she check her turkey. I would not have "kidnapped" her turkey. But I would have changed my mind and told her she can't use my oven.

I remember renting this movie with my high school girlfriend on DVD from Hollywood Video when it came out (boy, that sentence makes me sound old). I don't remember loving it back then, but re-watching it now as an adult, I enjoyed it much more.

However, if you would've asked me anytime over the past decade what I thought about this movie, the ONLY thing I would've said was how funny his character was. His performance has always stuck with me.

The moment when April bursts back into his house after he steals a turkey leg, and the reaction on his face as he screams, is absolutely priceless and hilarious.
