Aki: Rare man of principle

I love Aki Kourismaki's films. I think he's brilliant and refreshing, with a unique, 'recognizable' style. I also like his principles: he strongly disagrees with America's involvement in the affairs of other nations (not just the Middle East), and he has twice boycotted Academy Award and Golden Globe presentations as a means of protest. Does ANY director/actor/whatever do this kind of thing any more? I remember Marlon Brando did it 35 years ago after receiving an Oscar for The Godfather. He was protesting America's policy toward native peoples.

Anybody else remember more recent examples of artists standing up for a principle and not selling out to the phony glitz and glamour of Hollywood, New York, London, Paris or wherever?

Brando was show-boating. Kaurismäki had integrity.
