Why is it rated R

I'm looking into getting this movie, but I'm curious, why the R rating? Thanks for the help.

reply

it is rated 14A in canada, as there is swearing, bloody scenes, and kind of sexual content. R inthe states cuz they are wierd about stuff like that. Canada almost always has lower ratings.

It wasn't rated at all in the US, unless they rated it after the DVD came out. I seriously doubt it would get an R rating.

Nudity- none (although Mary Magnum's vinyl outfit is sexier than any nudity.)

Sex- some clothed lesbian kissing

Adult situations- A transexual Good Samaritan, more lesbian material.

Language- very little- Jesus wears a t-shirt with the f-word on it for about 3 seconds.

Violence- very phony kung-fu, vampire stakings (mostly off camera.) Any episode of Buffy or Angel is more violent.

Gore- Blood thrown liberally during stakings. An "autopsy" scene that is very phony- looks like high school kids doing a mad scientist skit.

I believe they said on the commentary track that they were going for a PG-13, but that the t-shirt might have pushed it to an R potentially. I think the MPAA would have let the t-shirt and the gore slide if it was a studio picture.

That cinches it, I think. I believe that the f-word warrants an automatic R rating in the States. We're weird that way.

For example, name one scene in the Blues Brothers that should warrant an R rating if you ignore the F bombs.

In theory, numerous monkeys with keyboards can produce Shakespeare. IMDb members prove this false.
