I actually feel a little bad for the warden.

I mean, her whole life was revolved around finding that chest, even her childhood and she never even gets to see what is inside. I know she is a "bad guy" but at the same time she may have been driven mad by the need to find the chest.

Sign of a good writer to create a character like that. We did get to see her back ground.

And sign of a good person to be able to empathize with them. Your abilities will endear you to many friends in life, and success, as long as you don't let them take advantage of you.

Ephemeron.

I never felt bad for her. She created a prison camp in order to receive free labor from teenagers in order to find what she is looking for. It is sad that her entire life has been devoted to digging holes, but that does not mean she must drag other people to it.

reply

That's right, it was SLAVE LABOR that drove her in the end!

reply

^This was correct. She had no right to create a prison camp and take complete advantage of a bunch of teenagers. When she gets caught and is taken away at the end, that is justice being served.

But that being said, it's hard not to feel a little sympathetic towards her at the end. Despite what she did, she spent her entire life dedicated to finding that treasure and it was all because of someone else. So, yes, while she could've realized that she was wrong to force others to do her digging, her obsession with finding that chest became a life long goal because that’s what she was raised to do. Stanley not letting her get a glimpse of what was inside the chest? It hurts a bit. :)

reply

Yes, denying her a look of the inside of chest is a bit painful, but it served her right.

reply

Yeah. Sometimes you just have to use your imagination. I would think she would have found out some how. I mean it was a historic moment finding that treasure so the story would have likely been posted in a magazine, book etc. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if Stanley would have wrote a book about it that very well could be turned into a movie in that universe ha.

reply

It doesn't hurt one damn bit AT ALL. She should've decided, as a young child herself, that her grandfather was insane, and had nothing more to do with it! It was ALL ON HER.

reply

Her life was ruined, basically, by her grandfather who insisted she find the treasure, and so she decided to dedicate her life to finding it, through fair means OR foul. And boy did she waste that life! The rightful custodian of the treasure had every right to deny her!
