I love this movie

This such a well made movie it's ridiculous! Wish every movie could be as enjoyable as this one!

Agreed!

Indeed, the production quality is through the roof, along with the historical details.
First time watching it, I didn't understand a word. "Sand and broken shell", "hard a larboard" etc. and I love movies who just throw you into a certain era with minimum or no hand holding.

It's almost absurd... We live in the age of limitless information - almost for free - and most of us prefer bullshit like transformers 14 or your generic cookie-cutter superhero nonsense "movie" (check the box-office) instead of masterpieces like this.

Weird times.

By the way, there are rumors they will make a sequel. But nothing solid, last time I checked.

I agree.

It is very good. I'd give it a 7.6.

Definitely worth a rewatch.

The sad fact of the matter is that this wonderful film got completely overshadowed by Pirates of the Caribbean at the time. Pirates was so successful it seriously pushed Weir’s film to the side. Pirates had the comedy but Master was the real thing - serious, gritty and so well made! We need a sequel ASAP, end of.

I’m so glad I saw Master and Commander in the cinema and it takes pride of place in my dvd collection 👍😄

I think this is a splendid film, Peter Weir’s finest movie, the best modern Hollywood ‘epic’ and it’s a shame that it’s been largely forgotten.

I cosign all the comments. You can’t say it was overlooked as it did win two Oscars and got nominated for 10 others including Best Picture, but it has been kind of forgotten. I just now saw it for the first time and was blown away. 9/10
