Algerian guy with French accent who doesn't speak French

What's the deal with that? I don't get it. Is it intentional, or just unforgivably bad casting?

It is a joke. The actor in question is well known across France & does indeed speak French.

Yes ,it was intended as a joke , If you noticed at the beginning in the bar when they meet Samy one of them ask the same question . It is meant to the movie to be in English so they make a joke about it in that way :)

What about the fact that sometimes the French guys speak English amongst themselves?

Totally unrealistic. Did they run out of English subtitles or what?
