question (major plot hole?) spoiler

Unless I'm missing something, this is more than just a plot hole--it makes the whole film make no sense.

Why is it important to make it appear that Rachel is getting kicked out of the gang? The people she gets kicked out in front of are all together at the end of the movie, and were presumably all in on the con from the beginning, except for Dustin Hoffman's henchman Lupus, and (a) Lupus just gets killed at the end by the banker's guy, and (b) I don't see how it could've helped to try to make it seem to Lupus like Rachel was getting kicked out anyway, y'know, even if Lupus hadn't died when he did.

They should've wanted it to seem to the banker people like she was getting kicked out, not to Lupus.

This aspect of the plot, I think, makes no sense. Unless I'm missing something.

The black guy with the gun didn't have any idea she was still with them. Her leaving the group gave them and inside person to pull the trigger on the fake gun while the other guy would want to run away.

Surely the criminal kingpin King would have made mention of the missing money that was confiscated upon his arrest? It then would ahve been easy to conclude that the Garcia's FBI character was corrupt and the whole episode would then have unravelled if not before?

it has to be because lupus has to be under orders to tell the king if hes being "fu*ked" or not. and by telling the girl to get out, go away and that is to show a sense of control over the situation.such as he only trusts certain people to do the work and she werent one of them, so he gets rid of her therefore he has a trustworthy group again and no more hitches or hiccups should happen.

Been a while since I watched the movie, but I think they needed her to get kicked out so she could come back for revenge with the bank guys at the end. Or, that's at least what King/Hoffman is supposed to believe is what happened - that everything went sideways because she was kicked out and took revenge, by telling the bank guys. Also, they need her to "kill" Jake, so that King/Hoffman won't suspect that telling the bank guys was Jake's idea.

And since Lupus reported to King and was King's only way to know what was going on, they needed to kick her out in front of Lupus, so that he could report to King about her getting kicked out.

agree with Johnny Doe. the movie is just the story that Vig gives to the gunman. It is not necessarily or at all, what exactly happened! the "Anatomy of a Scene" on the DVD explains this well, alongwith the fact that when Vig proposes the plan, you can already see the Bank VP they selected as an inside man--- before they have really narrowed down the search!

A. She was kicked out so she could pull the trigger on Jake at the end of the movie.

B. She was able to finagle a finders fee out of Morgan Price, upping the total amount of money they were able to steal.
