Vaughn instead of Burns

Oftentime when weathcing a film, I get the feeling that the writer had a different actor in mind when creating a role. In Confidence I can't help but feel it was Vince Vaughn (post-Swingers, pre-Dodgeball). He would have been perfect in this role and woulds have given the character much-needed charisma.

The only other movie that springs to mind that is simialr is The Whole Nine Yards, which feels like a Jim Carry comedy without Jim Carrey.

Anyone else do this and if so which films.

Ed Burns was perfectly cast I thought. Vince Vaughn would have been too big and awkward. Could you really buy him as an Armani clad pretty boy?

I agree, I think Ed Burns was perfect for this role. The whole Jake Vig character seemed to come to him easily in my opinion. It looks like it suits his personality.

Ed Burns has no personality...........

Neither does Vince Vaughn

i think vince vaughn in a lot of his movies is world-weary.

Good God, to read some of the remarks on this and other messageboards is like receiving a lobotomy for ****'s sake.

How many times have you met and personally conversed with Ed Burns? What exactly is your qualifier when you say he has no personality? It's nice to know that you can watch someone on TV and instantly know what kind of person they are in real life.

Oh wait, you can't.

Imbecile.

reply

They don't mean he has no personality in real life. Who cares what the actor is like in reality? We see them on the screen, and right from when I saw the trailer, I felt that Ed Burns didn't have the charisma for the role - seeing the movie just confirmed it for me.
That's my opinion, and it's not a personal attack on Burns - but I don't care if he's a cool guy to know - he's a movie actor and I'm sure we don't hang out in the same places

reply

Yes. Vaughn or even, I hate to say, Affleck would of been better than Burns. Eh, whatregunnado?

reply

I agree, Burns always speaks like someone is holding his nuts, which can be offputting.

reply

LOLCANO! You hit the nail right on the head there.

reply

If you think Burns is too much of a pussy, then Affleck is
even more of a pussy. Vaughn maybe. Vaughn was good in Domestic
Disturbance playing a sinister murderer and stepfather. Incidentally,
it was reported that while filming Domestic Disturbance that Vaughn got
into a bar fight and had his mug shot taken.

As for CONfidence, I thought it was great. I gave it 8/10. It was
lacking something, but I cannot put my finger on exactly what. Great
acting and great casting. Maybe Burns was mis-cast. He played the part
well, but may not have been his role. He does not come across as a
tough guy. Afleck even less so.

reply

No actor has influenced more actors in his own generation than Mickey Rourke- they all want to be him- and none of them are. (Affleck, Vaughan, Burns) and dozens of others succeed to varying degrees- I'll leave it to you guys to decide who comes closest- while I lament what could have been.

reply

Burns was totally acceptable as the con with the snarky attitude. He wasn't meant to be likeable, just effectively dubious with some sense of loyalty amongst thieves. Another acting choice might have played the role differently and in result changed my views on the movie as a whole. I enjoyed the film as is and think it worked with the parts they assembled.

reply

There you go! A young Mickey Rourke would have been great casting for this!

~~~"Who do you think you're dealing with? Guess again."~~~
reply
I thought Edward Burns looked a little like Ryan Reynolds.
Ryan Reynolds would've been good as Jake Vig.............
reply
LMAO.
Okay, I don't find Vince Vaughn is not hot. Rachel Weisz and Vince Vaughn getting all hot and heavy would have been incredibly disturbing.
I really don't know Burns from anything else (at least not anything I can think of) but I think he was fantastic in this. I feel for the con adn I would fall for any con he pulled because he is a smooth talker when he needs to be and what lady wouldn't want to believe everything he is saying?
I think about other people playing a character when I learn other actors were up for the part or when someone else was intended to play a character but due to scheduling conflicts, they could not. Other than that, it isn't very often I think about it.
This case wasn't one of them, I honestly doubt I would have changed anything about this movie. The cast was one of the things I loved the most. (Dad from 'Grounded for Life' lol.)
@berty2001.I don't know about Vince Vaughn but I don't like Edward Burns in the movie at all.
reply
Vince Vaughn would've been terrible for this, as he is terrible in everything
Colin Farrell could have done it.
I don’t like Burns at all, but he was just fine in this role. All you wannabe casting directors? Don’t quit the day job.
