The paintings [spoilers]

I just finished watching this movie and there's one thing I don't understand. At the start, Ryu sends his story to the radio station along with a painting of him and his sister by the river when they were young. Later on when Park goes to the station (after Ryu had called in to say his sister was dead), the woman there gives him the painting and there's a second one of Ryu burying his sister with Yoo-sun in the water.

So who made those pictures and how did a painting of Park's dead daughter get sent to the radio station?

reply

How could Ryu have possibly "called in to say his sister was dead"?

Just think about it for a minute.

Now you've got it, because he's deaf and dumb.

He sent in the picture with his follow-up letter telling of the death of his sister.

reply

I assumed he was the one who sent the picture, but why paint a picture of the crime scene, with Park's daughter dead in the lake? I suppose there was no way to link Ryu to the painting, unless they identified his sister's body, but it still seems like a stupid thing to do.

reply

I'm guessing at that point, he really didn't care anymore. Other than his girlfriend, he'd basically lost everything in his world, including his kidney. Plus, like you said, he probably figured they wouldn't be able to link the painting to the kidnapping.

reply

He made them. The paintings were kind of vague. We only know it's him burying his sister and the daughter floating in the river because we're primed for it.
