Failed because too many changes from miniseries

I was just watching the miniseries on DVD with my kids, who enjoyed tremendously when it first aired. We all looked forward to the series.

WHY, WHY, WHY did they make so many changes in characters, actors, sets, etc. for the series? It was unrecognizable. The miniseries got good ratings and reviews, so why did they feel the need to take a success and mess with it?

They should have never touched it. The mini series was leaps and bounds better than this crud. It was almost a soap opera. They seldom even discussed the dinos.

I just watched the miniseries on SciFi. I only vaguely remember it when it originally aired. I'm disapopinted to hear the follow up series was bad. Based on the dates from IMDb, it looks like the series came immediately after the miniseries ended. Why would they make so many changes? It also looks like none of the same actors were used. How come? I wonder if they'd consider trying again, maybe on a different network, sticking more to the original story. They left some things up in the air. Like who would end up with Marion, how the father would adjust to Dinotopia, etc. This feels like a lost opportunity. If they ever make a sequel, I'll definitely watch.

I really enjoyed the series, so much so that i think it may have been a little better than the original min-series/tele-movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was so dissapointed to see that it had been canceled and that I was going to be left on that cliffhanger for all of eternity!

The changing actors I get. They would have to move to Australia to continue doing the series and/or they were tied up under contract to some other show since they had no idea the mini would get extended. But, did they have to hire someone who look so much like Tyrone Leitso(Karl) to play David? Over three episodes in and I still kept thing David was Karl.

I saw an episode, but couldn't really be bothered to watch any more (maybe I will). I've read the first two art books, and the first chapter book and one of the novels, and I hated the fact that half if not more of the humans in the Hallmark versions hate being stranded on an island full of dinosaurs (and no wonder because instead of living in harmony with the plant eaters and having mutual respect for the meat eaters, the only thing keeping everyone safe is a bunch of magic rocks).

I Completely Disagree. I think the new actors did a much more better job than the other ones.

Some roles were so much better like Marion, the Mayor and Rosemary, they were Awful in the first series. Just Awful.

I don't know but I could relate more to the newer actors and they felt nicer, I kind of hated the cast of the first series

LOL, are you serious?

Marion and Rosemary were *beep* compared to the mini series
