What is wrong with people? This game is an absolute masterpiece. Great stories with deeply disturbed and tortured characters. Fantastic level design and gameplay that completely defines what Twisted Metal is all about.
TM2 is the favorite in the eyes of many, and understandably so, but this game in every respect is fantastic. I do not get the sub par rating. This is one of the most visceral and awesome experience on any system in my opinion.
I was a little bit surprised by the average rating too... It's actually a bit of a novelty to me that I frequently head back to youtube to watch uploaded videos of this game's storyline, as I was actually really terible at the game, and I was actually heavily scared of the contents of most of its plot, though despite (or maybe, once again as eccentric as that might seem, because) that much I was heavily engrossed within the plot lines and general atmoshpere of the game.
Maybe the two things I had just stated (difficulty and/or horror elements to the game) actually turned a lot of people off, as a lot of people probably wouldn't want to admit to not being skilled enough to play this and/or being too scared to the point they wouldn't want to advance the plot, though those are the only hypotheses I could come up with (you didn't actually ask about that much explicitly while reading your post, though you did initially exclaim "what is wrong with people" hence me granting you these ideas now).
Despite everything I just said though, I was expecting the rating to be at least 8 though before visiting the page for this game, hence me replying and stating this much now.
It's up to 8.8 now buddy, praise Christ.
