Fantastic film...

What a fantastic film, I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of watching it.

In this age of 'reality' shows, this is truly a piece of work that will have you thinking how we can sometimes take things for granted.

I wish there were more films like this being made today.

This is a fantastic film indeed. It really does come off as a reality show type of piece. The realism as well as the camera which were used to shoot it makes you feel as if you are truly there. Like you are truly there when that guard discovers the two boys on that bus. It truly does feel like you're when Jamal, Enayat and that family are trapped inside that container on the ship and most of them die. This movies makes you feel that you are truly there when Jamal is able to finally arrive to London (alone). This movie brings out so many thoughts and emotions. Great piece of cinema.

is it just me or so you find that because Jemal and Enyat were real refugees when winterbottom chose (didn't know if you knew that) them you felt like you knew them more. I loved jemals joke he told to enyat along the way, i think they captured the young boys wise spirit amoungest the hard reality of their journey.

The Mullah Nasridin joke had me cracking up too!

The one about thank you and Mullah Nasridin confuses it with "Tank" and is threatened. :lol

The film makers I believe did a wonderful job of portraying the Afghan plight through their humanity. It not only showed their truly horrendous circumstance, but how the young men persevered with humor, cautiousness, persistence, etc.

Especially given this day and age and how Afghanistan and its people play a role in the world's political stage. We know what and how some people think. We know most of the time there are filters that distort the actual image. Well, this film IMO, was one that cleared up the picture, so to speak.

yeah, this movie is quite good.

It does remind that some people never consider how a movie is made when they are watching it. Winterbottom is increasingly becoming my favorite active director. This is a perfect blend of guerrilla and capitalista.

was a fantastic movie, and has become a favourite 'afghan' based movie..right up there with 'beast of war'.

Though i did wonder, this WAS based on a true story? (assuming from the 'Jamal's application denied' info at the end)

The question then is...was Jamal the real Jamal? Did Enayat really accompany him on their journey?....if so was the death of 'a certain main character' just put in to add flavour...or did someone actually die...and enayat chosen to portray him?

Wonder if anyone knows where these guys are now.

The story is not true, rather it is based on experiences the filmakers gathered from interviewing actual refugees. Jamal and Enayat were actually inexperienced actors hired pretty much on the spot in Afghanistan. However, after the filming was done, Jamal chose to return to the UK to live there, where he was denied assylum and allowed to stay until he turned eighteen, hence the ending sequence. I have not been able to find out though how Jamal was able to return to the UK, although I did read the filmakers were unaware of his return to London until after he had already gotten there.

Glad to see no negative posts for this film. Seems to be the norm on these comments.

Definitely one of the best films I've ever seen. I vaguely remembering this coming out during the World Cup 2002. I was living in South Korea at the time. Interesting how there were many football scenes.

To me it's like City of God yet it has its own personality. Just a similar vein.

Very moving, loved it, hope more people watch it... eventually.

Watching the plight of refugees shows me how insignificant nationalist doctrine criminalizes these people. People can close borders all they want. The people will find a way through. So long as people keep making people refugees.

It makes me happy to be born where I was born... in this world.
