princess blade

i just saw this movie and it rocks but its just so damn sad

Yeah, I liked it too. Some of the best fight scenes ever, especially the final confrontation. Never seen anything like that on film. But it was way too heavy with the melodrama. I mean the ending with the guy and his siter was pointless. Good movie though. I will definatlly recomend.

I can't say that I can recommend it. In fact, I was disappointed in it. It's nowhere near as entertaining as other Japanese titles I've seen (both Battle Royales, Ichi the Killer, Uzumaki, Versus to name a few). For some _better_ sword fighting action, I would go for Versus, or The Legend Part II (with Jet Li; he carries a good dozen swords around his waist and fights blindfolded. I know it's not Japanese, but it has good choreography, as do most Wu Xia films).

first of all
i fell in love with yumiko shaku
i think she is VERY beautiful
the fight scenes are more than ok id say
and best of all
this movie had a GOOD ending
it wasnt one of those all so common hallmark typical American/west world endings
it was a realistic ending

one thing i find strange about this movie is
she can burn togheter a sword wound with a red hot knife (to stop the bleeding)
and no face movement what so ever
and then when she gets her hand impaled by a katana she screams like a wounded pig

overall a really good film
mostly b-coz of the extreamly good ending

reply

Not sure if I can call it "realistic" ending.

More like "dramatic".

I don't mind not having a happy happy ending, but I am not sure if there was any point here. Ah well, was alright as a movie..

I must say though, the movie did lack a bit of depth IMO. Especially the sub-plot.

man i hate it when people bash this film and compare it to jet li films.

People where expecting too much freggin action from this movie.
The story was better and is better then most Jet Li movies and the Artistic backrounds are alot better then any Jet Li movie excluding Hero.

I've got a question about Yumiko Shaku, the lead actress in this film.
Did she have a double or was she the one who performed all those martial arts moves? She seemed a little bit clumsy with the katana she was using in close up and medium shots; like the sword was going to fall out of her hand. But when the action picks up speed, Yuki's face isn't shown. This is the only time she seems to know what she is doing. I think the fat old guy in this movie also had a double because he suddenly became thin when he was fighting. Does anyone know about this?

reply

I think it is natural for actors to have stand ins or training for fight scenes. Many Hollywood actors look foolish holding a gun in their movies. I enjoyed this movie, my only critique was the obligatory quick recovery of the injured warrior that is always shown in action movies. The only time you see an action star try to make a comeback and fail because of their injury is to illustrate their willingness to sacrifice their lives or to inspire the other hero.

Yumiko Shaku did have a stand in and yes dat stand in is a guy. i remember checking the info on this movie after i watch it and it mention the stunt double's name but i forgot it.

reply

The story line for this was terrible. There was barely any transition or cohesion at all.

reply

Yes, it was pretty obvious the lead female was doubled. The camera would zoom away only during the more intricate movements for the actress and the stuntdouble had his head lowered most of the time. Not to take anything away from the real actress, I thought she did fine. But Donnie Yen's coreography gets pretty difficult I bet. I think it was a male stuntdouble, which is a common practice in Asian action flicks.

To quote Maddox: "This movie stomps so much ass they need to import colons from another country due to the severe shortage here."

The fighting scenes were awesome, and the subtle romance was much deeper and more sincere than most "romantic" movies. The end may have been dramatic, that didn't make it bad. A movie needs a lot to get me tear-eyed, and this one did.

Totally rocking.

This is a sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet movie!

why does this movie have such a low grade?! i just finished watching azumi and that movie sucks balls compared to this one but still has a much higher grade.
i had no expectations at all when i started watching Princess Blade and now i feel this movie must be one of the most underrated movies ive seen so far. it pwns! its beutiful! i love the ending! the stunts are awesome!

and whoever said Uzumaki was better then Princess Blade, ur kidding right? or maby i didnt get Uzumaki... its not a comedy is it? cause it is kinda funny, but i think that was not realy intended.

it was indeed a nice movie

...its just so damn sad...
It's consistent though. Just about every other character in the movie dies.
