saw it, awesome movie

i had to buy an imported dvd to see it, the subtitles were horrible and made no damn sense, but the cinematography and coreography were awesome, great movie in my opinion, go see it!

I don't think I'd say that myself... it has something that raises it above the level of mediocre, but there's really not a lot to it as a movie. The story is kind of slow and predictable, the action scenes are OK but not great, and there are far too many situations where the heroine could easily have been killed but her attackers just let her off.

Hmm, maybe if you saw a version with subtitles that made no sense, the storyline wouldn't seem so weak... perhaps I should try watching it again with no subtitles and then see if it's a much better movie :).

i thought the sword fighting scenes were awesome, and what parts are their when they could have killed her but let her go, usually she just ran from them or kicked their ass. I loved this movie and though the story (from what i could understand) was damn good.

I find the sword fighting were a little too "zoomed in". Sometime I find myself rewinding because I couldn't tell what just happened..

Yes, the scene where she fights the other chick, that death made no sense at all. You can see her use her legs to turn the sword, next you see the chick, still holding the sword, and loose balance, next all of a sudden, the sword is sticking trough her body ... mmkay? Now how the hell did that happen, she was still holding the sword, she that weak she cant hold a sword properly? Wich could not have been the case since she was still holding the sword, thats why she lost balance in the first place, she stumbled from yukis head posisiton to her feets position because she was holding the sword that firmly.
To go further even if she lost grip on the sword, it would be near impossible to trust a sword trough a fullgrown body holding it with your feet halfway the blade of the katana. One, the remaining lenght of the blade cant be long enough to stick that far out of the body like it did in the movie and two, most of all, Yuki was wearing combatshoes, your not gonna tell me you can aply that much force while holding a sword in this way, there is no grip. Maybe bare feet? I think you would end up cutting your own feet like that.

The size of a katana is about an arms lenght so in order to stick it in your own belly you need to hold it backwards, wich she wasnt. And all Yuki did was turn the blade, still held by the other chick, Soma Sumi, something what was her name again.
Its the only death scene that didnt make sense, and even, not possible given the facts.
Its the same weird stuff with people carrying a katana on there backs, it is near impossible to unsheath a katana that is carried on the back, that or you have huuuuuuge armlenght. But yea unsheathing from the back looks cool and all .

Anyway, so this why they probably went for very close up shots in swordfights because half the things they did arent possible. Cool yea, just not possible ^^

That happened fairly frequently I found and even rewinding didn't always help.

I thought the acting was pretty pedestrian and the story lacked any sort of depth, causing every thing to be rather predictable.

I love it; it's one of my all-time favorites. It's not a masterpiece, but not every movie has to be. I re-watch it whenever I just feel like a little light movie-viewing, a fun way to pass the time (and to practice my Japanese listening comprehension). Though i've seen it literally hundreds of times, i've never gotten tired of it and I doubt I ever will.
