So... Keaton or Chaplin?

I'm watching the film now, and they've just got to the scene where they debate - Keaton or Chaplin.

Personally, I'm going to say Keaton. Probably just because I'm more familiar with Keaton's work than Chaplin's. Although my hometown is where Chaplin made his stage debut.

I'd say Chaplin. I really like Chaplin's work and after "The Dreamers" I enjoyed "City Lights" much more ...

Or maybe it is because I'm European *gg*

Chaplin, hands down.

reply

Keaton. He had a brilliance that is unsurpassed to this day. Everyone can do Chaplin.. no one can be Keaton.

reply

Keaton. His work stands up over time better than Chaplin's, though that's not to say Chaplin is crap... only that now, 70 or 80 years later, Keaton's work still seems fresh. But I see no reason to cut either figure out.

reply

I'd say Keaton.

Tough one, but as far as I'm concerned... Keaton.

Chaplin was an artist.

Keaton.

Was not.

Keaton.

The Camaraman is such an excellent movie! The little monkey deserved the academy award.

reply

God, Buster all the way. The best thing about him was that he never, EVER tried to pretend that he was some great artist. He insisted that he was just making movies, no matter how much people praised him. Chaplin on the other hand was always trying to be all artsy fartsy. Besides that, Buster's just a million times funnier.

I get the feeling you're violating somebody's basic human rights here...

reply

Chaplin was an artist.

But so was Keaton.

The difference was Keaton didn't flaunt it.

Chaplin THOUGHT he was an artist.

Keaton did not.

And Hendrix.

So the incestuous frenchie was wrong on both counts.

I am not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

reply

Yeah, but she's a hot incestuous Frenchie. I wish I was her brother...

...That came out wrong.
