What was on their shoulders?

Theo and Isabelle had what looked like matching scars on their shoulders. I thought they would explain this at some point, but they didn't. Anyone know?

I'm not sure but I read somewhere that they were conjoined twins

I have two theories:

Conjoined at birth, separated, leaving a scar.

Or

Some weird burn mark, 'pact' to show how close they are.

If the second one is true, I suspect the parents' reaction finding Isabelle and Theo (forgetting about Matthew here for a second) naked together in a tent wouldn't seem so crazy, hence their "lets leave money and get out of here quickly" reaction.

They've already witnessed something similar beforehand.

A metaphor, perhaps...

'Conjoined twins are genetically identical, and are, therefore, always the same sex. They develop from the same fertilized egg, and they share the same amniotic cavity and placenta.'

reply

they are not genetically identical if they have different genders, conjoined twins can not be 2 different genders, only explanation is they were twins but 2 different "eggs" in the womb, it must have been some sort of tattoo
