Rachel Portman's Score -- WOW

Was not the music by Rachel Portman some of the most beautiful orchestration that has been written for the screen in a long time?? I LOVED that main theme in its many incarnations, and have not been able -- nor have I wanted -- to get it out of my head since hearing it a month ago. So simple, yet so lush, lively, and fun. The music alone made me leave the theater feeling more alive and joyful.

I totally agree with you. I bought the soundtrack before watching the movie, and I was completely in love with it. I almost imagine the whole film just for listening to these beautiful compositions. Simply wonderful...

Oh, yes, I approved of it as well. But I still adore the score for Chocolat far more. Of course I readily recognized the name during the credits, and thought if nothing else, at least there would be quality music in this movie.

Hey, if it works... Besides, with the same composer, you're going to get marked similarities. Who, by now, canNOT spot a John Williams score a mile away? Or Danny Elfman? I have the scores for "Emma" and "Nicholas Nickleby" in my collection and love them both.

reply

Loved it as much as Chocolat! Moving.

Her score for this film is fantastic, and it should be, since she heavily borrowed the main musical theme (Main Title) from the first movement of Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony (Symphony No. 6 In F Major) and wove it throughout the entire score.

I agree with OP. It took me ages to find a site with which I could listen to the whole End Title.

I agree, Portman's score is very moving. It caught my attention from the titles in the very beginning until the end credits! I loved her work on The Cider House Rules as well and found this score just as wonderful!

I agree with all of you, it was one of the best film scores so far this decade, very exciting, moving, and memorable.

reply

Agree, completely enchanting, and memorable.
