Jim Broadbent gets around

I just want to say that Jim Broadbent-wondeful actor-sure as heck gets around. He is in seemingly 3 movies every month. God, that's good work ethic.

So true...I saw Gangs of New York a couple of days ago and there was Broadbent, as Boss Tweed. I guess that's what happens when you're THE MAN.

I agree. He is definately a popular actor, and is has demanding roles, but he always pulls off a great performance. When is this movie (N.N.) going to be in wide release?

reply

The movie has just been released in Canada, a week later that the States, but only in a very few theatres. Even in Canada it's only being released in Toronto, I believe. And Oakville nearby.

I remember watching "Time Bandits" back in 1985, and looking through the credits to find the name of the wacky game show host. "Jim Broadbent," it said. "Never heard of him," I said.

Then came "Brazil," and there he was as a bizarre plastic surgeon.

Then a period of silence, so to speak, broken by "Princess Caraboo," which my mom rented and which I had no interest in until I saw Jim Broadbent in the credits.

And now it seems America has finally discovered the man. And (excluding "Iris" which I have not had a chance to see), he always lands the delightfully off-the-wall parts. The ringleader of the Moulin Rouge, the one-eyed Wackford Squeers, and the list goes on. Pity he's come into his prime at such a late age...I fear we may not have this delicious character actor around for long.

"....The ringleader of the Moulin Rouge..."

Poor Pevensie children. Apperantly they don't know what the professor is doing in his spare time, or what he's doing when they're not to disturb him.

I can see why he is in demand. He gives his all in his characterisation in this.
