I'm a Catholic and...

...we always pray, during the mess, that our dear brothers in Christ would find their way back to Lord's Church and their souls'd be saved :D

I guess 400 years have passed but there are still bitter feelings... although now our Cardinal and Lutheran Archbishop celebrate their mass together during Easter or Christmas...

I don't really have real faith and I too consider Catholic mass to be pretty boring- you always hear some passages from the Scripture and some lousy preaching (except for some good ones, like I remember one about Saint Augustine) but, I don't know... if you're born a Catholic, I think, you'll always remain a Catholic even if you lose faith in God and attend the church on Easter of Christmas just because it's a tradition. If you're a Protestant I think it's different. The thing is... Catholic Church has such a history and people behind it, yes, some murderous etc. but still- many, many of them noble, that you sort of have a respect for this institution. It's like a military or something with clear structure... as St. Ignatius of Loyola once said “We should always be disposed to believe that that which appears white is really black, if the hierarchy of the Church so decides”. Of course it goes against individuals freedom of speech/ religion etc. but not all people need this freedom. I know a lot of people who have been cured/ their lives are better just because they spoke to a priest or God in the church. Religion sometimes creates something like a Placebo effect when if the Church says something is Saint and will cure some disease, people start to fanatically believe it, basically curing themselves... because people can do great things just believing really really strong that they will beat cancer etc.

From other aspects I don't see a dire need for the Church. But some people really need it as it's what keeps them alive and helps to get well. For that you need rules and dogmas that haven't changed for 2000 years and I hope won't change during the next 2000... Otherwise people will lose respect for the Church

I don't know many people that have problems with Catholicism or religious people or anything like that. What causes a lot of the anger is when the Catholics/religious people take their beliefs to the polls, to the lawmakers, to the children they alienate, to the brother they stop speaking to, to the gay person they shun, etc. etc. etc. etc. If people want to be religious, fine, but like Sister Helen used to say in 4th grade, "Eyes on your own paper." I take it a step further and say, "Eyes on your own soul." It's not our job to force God's kingdom on earth through laws and shunning others, but by opening up our arms and giving everyone a big ol' hug.

Basically, no one could make me believe that voting Republican is what "keeps Christians alive and helps them get well." And yet to so many Christians these days, that's what religion IS: voting Republican, hating gays, and crying for fetuses. That's where a lot of people have a problem with Christians. Heck, so do I--and I am a Christian!

Taking back IMDB message boards....one ignored Troll at a time.

"that our dear brothers in Christ would find their way back to Lord's Church and their souls'd be saved"

That right there is the problem and is rather offensive. Many catholics are under the impression that non-catholics are not and can not be saved; also unfortunate is that they are taught this too. No one church can distribute Christ's salvation as if it were tea to be served to the thirsty. It is Christ who freely distributes his salvation if we have the faith to accept him.

"I guess 400 years have passed but there are still bitter feelings"

It is unfortunate that there are bitter feelings, yes, but both sides continue to perpetuate this age-old disagreement. Statements like your opener are exactly what ruffles feathers.

"if you're born a Catholic, I think, you'll always remain a Catholic even if you lose faith in God and attend the church on Easter of Christmas just because it's a tradition."

Your catholic church frowns upon that. Some would argue that your church would even consider you unsaved for that.

"I know a lot of people who have been cured/ their lives are better just because they spoke to a priest or God in the church. Religion sometimes creates something like a Placebo effect when if the Church says something is Saint and will cure some disease, people start to fanatically believe it, basically curing themselves... because people can do great things just believing really really strong that they will beat cancer etc. "

Your catholic church would frown upon that opinion too. I have seen and heard of similar things happening outside of the catholic church all the time. A true Christ follower of any sort would not dismiss such a thing as "placebo" and would have the faith to consider that it may be truly the result of faith or a blessing from God.

The problem with catholicism is that they employ tradition and dogma they invented themselves. protestants don't have a problem with catholicism because they follow rules that haven't changed for 2000 years.

As a protestant I do not see catholics as needing salvation. I see them similar to how the new church 60AD saw christian Jews! Galations talks about this very clearly, it says, if people want to follow rules they don't have to THEN WHO GIVES A TOSS! LET THEM! <- paraphrased but carries the same message. lol. If catholics want to invent a bunch of rules then let them. It doesn't make them more or less saved.

Even if you are catholic i don't think you should take the actions of power hungry popes who used their position to exploit the masses personally! Most catholics will condemn the actions of the popes in this era as fast as protestants would. This was an era of UN-CHRIST-LIKE control. They used the bible to control others, extort money etc. This does not reflect catholicism today, only stupid people thinks it does.

Is the OP a troll or just very immature? Rarely have I read such a poorly reasoned post. In fact, it reads just like the examples of bad essays they give in the textbook from which I teach college prep to high-school students.
