A TV Bio That Should have been a Movie Bio

Even though I think Gilda's life is worthy of a theatrical film, I wa pleased to see this attempt at bringing her life to the screen. I learned a lot from this film that I never knew, such as her marriage to GE Smith...that was something I never knew. I think Jami Gertz delivered the performance of her career as Gilda...this crazy, complicated, misunderstood comic genius whose life was tragically cut short by cancer. Tom Rooney delivers a dead on portrayal of Gene Wilder, the love of Gilda's life. He really didn't resemble Wilder physically, but everything else about his performance was dead on. The casting of former SNL performers was also perfect, especially the actor cast as John Belushi. The film was limited by its TV running time...it would have been nice to see some more behind the scenes dirt at SNL, but there's only so much that can be shown in an hour and thirty-five minutes. It was a game attempt at showcasing the comic, but it really should have been done as a theatrical film that could have delved deeper into the life of this tragic comic genius. Anyone else see this film and have opinions?
