Question about the novel. possible spoilers

I can't remember which book it is, although i'm fairly sure it's adaptation for this game.

In one of the chapters, the chief is running to his next destination and comes across a sniper or a previous reclaimer that appears to be one of the marines. Did it give any indication of who he was? or was he just some marine that was thrown into the novel?.

It's in "The Flood" novel.

He was just a random marine they made up for the novel.
