The clothes!!!

I was in my early teens at the time this movie is set, and I don't think there is another modern era in which clothes for girls and woman were so cute and such fun! The colors were bright (like red and white polka dots), the shapes feminine, and the styles often built around a theme. From my own wardrobe I recall a sailor dress, a "farmer's daughter" dress, a "schoolgirl" outfit, a beatnik look -- you get the picture. Some items were just plain beautiful, like a soft coral angora sweater tunic, and others were quirky, like my favorite red leather Capezios laced with a Swiss ribbon and PERFECTLY SQUARE toes. Now it seems like capsule dressing is the thing, if anyone makes an effort at all. Women used to wear heels, gloves and even hats for air travel; now you're lucky if the person beside you has bothered to wash her sweatsuit before the trip. I don't want to bring back girdles, but I would like to see a bit more fun and color in clothing like that shown in this movie.
Beauty is truth, truth beauty.
