if you think this movie sucks then you didnt watch it properly. it was simply a light hearted comedy, what were you expecting... an epic drama to change society for the next generation

reply

haha...i couldnt agree more.

since when were light-hearted comedies painful to watch??

I think most of the problem stems from the fact that most of the film isnt particularly believeavke, Which if you want to make a point of "sometimes you need to make new friends" (which just didnt really go with the movie really, bar that one scene which affected only 2 of the characters) is kinda signing a death sentence.

And for a comedy...I felt as if I would need whatever the two train peeps were sucking down on, to get a laugh out of this movie.

I tuned into this cringingly bad film on Saturday night...I knew it was going to be really stupid but not this bad!

This film exemplifies everything that is awful in Australian comedy. Apart from the most tedious, uninspired scenarios and characters I have ever come across (aside from those dubious French produced American tax break comedies!) Most of the situations were at their best, uninteresting and unbelievable; At worst, irresponsible and sick (I'm talking about the drink driving train wreck wtf?)

One scenario that really annoyed me was the nerds on the bus scene. From a screenwriting perspective the writers used the most boring, unfunny - not to mention unbelievable - scenario to get these three stranded without their luggage...They are on the holiday of their lives and they're going to risk it all (including a $300 deposit, luggage and room) to exert their rights to get down and boogy on a bus? I mean, they're about half an hour away from their destination and the bus driver wasn't even that much of a prick! I can't believe the writers didn't workshop this appalling scenario out. I think a ten year old could come up with 5 set-ups more clever, funny and believable.

I can go on with many others - the really unimaginative stereotypical psycopath, the whole relationship with the pissed off ex girlfriend and tag along virgin, the 'wow man out-there goth girl'inhaling stuff on the train - EVERYTHING was just woeful!

I cannot think of one redeeming feature of the this film except that the third wheel nerd was a bit of alright...

I think that this was a great moive, and one of the better australian films I have seen.

Dude, do you even LIVE in Australia? Have you ever BEEN to a schoolies week? If you had you would realise that this movie is quite realistic. Do you really think that teenagers that have just finished 13 years of school & are with their mates would really be acting sensibly? I mean it's their week to really let their hair down before they have to go out into the real world and either get a job or go to tafe or uni. Seriously, I could name real people that i knew in high school as characters from this movie. They have really got a good handle on what SOME schoolies will act like. It's not supposed to portray what EVERYONE does on schoolies. It's supposed to be a portrayal of some of the stuggles teens have when they've finally finished high school and realised that their lives are now taking off in completely different directions.

did you have a leavers/schoolies (im from perth) adventure when you were in your mid-twenties??
the footage of real leavers partying in the streets were the only scenes resembling anything that actual takes place on leavers.
basically this movie sucks like a 'nutgobbler' sucks willy.
i hated leavers anyway, it's just a chance for ugly teenagers to get with other ugly teenagers. being a good looking person this irritated me.
definately not a worthy subject matter for a film.
only in australia!

Movies like this are stupid, and before you say anything like "Shut up this movie rocks" etc. Keep in mind that this board is reserved for different views and perspectives on the movie, that and Im also entitled to my own opinion. Having said that I feel this movie is like most Australian movies / TV Shows when all the characters do is get Wasted, Swear, have sex and get High. Take that show "The Secret Life of Us" In basically every episode characters were just having sex, or affairs, or affairs with other characters of the same sex. Dont get me wrong, I have no problem with Homosexuals but if I was asked to watch a show full of sex and swearing and no real plot then I wouldnt like it. And this movie was just like it (Except the whole gay thing) But lets face it, Most Australian movies and TV Shows are all about sex. I myself am an Australian but Im not gonna deny this to myself and say to myself "This movie is good" cuz its Australian.

So what Im trying to say is that this movie SUCKED!

"Have you ever felt a knife tear through human flesh and scrape the bone beneth"

I actually really liked this movie...Admittedly I havent seen it for about a year. Still, it just struck me as being so bizarre and NOT pretentious or trying too hard, that it amused both me and my friends. Although this was at 2 in the morning.

I think you just have to be in the right frame of mind to like it. No, it's not a moving, coming-of-age drama - it was just a random story depicting tons of different people doing their different things. It was amusing cos they contrasted and fun because it had this whole air of giddiness about it.

reply

iawtc. it's really only suited for people who are IN that situation because they can relate to the characters. I enjoyed it. It mirrored my schoolies experience anyways.

Well, after reading all your comments about saying, either:

A) How much you loved this movie.

or

B) How much you thought this movie sucked

I for one cannot wait for schoolies.

Sex, Grog, Parties, Beach.
Sounds pretty darn good.

^^i agree!!

As a no brainer comedy this movie was great!
As an accurate portrayal of Schoolies, it sucked.
Overall- IT'S ONLY A MOVIE!
It doesn't say anywhere "based on actual events" or anything, it's just an unintelligent comedy film. You can just sit back, relax and have a bit of fun watching the film.

3/4 of the movie doesnt even show what schoolies should be, instead they wasted too much time showing people in the process of getting to the gold coast which is why this movie is rubbish.

you guys are all full of it.
I dont even know why I'm replying. be nice. if you love the movie say so if you dont say that, but stop picking on me.
I was going to go on leavers, but in a friendless world I couldn't be bothered.
Seeing this thread depressed me.

That's what this movie is about. It's not about schoolies its self, but about the trip (and lengths) that some people go to too get to schoolies. Read the play and understand what you are trying to diss before you actually do.

Why is there a piece of shoe stuck to your head?

reply

i'll have to say "this movie ruled," i really liked it. it would have been cool to show a movie about schoolies itself but that's not what the story was. it was fast-paced and though the acting was occasionally questionable i think overall it was a fun movie. not just because it was australian, though it was fun to see a party movie set in australia.

It was totally good. Schoolies was begging to have a movie made about them. Good, I say. Good. Very out there and maybe sometimes unrealistic but that's what made it entertaining.

It was good I tell you. Why did it bomb so bad. There's too much of a cultural cringe toward Australian movies.
