Insult to Michael Connelly fans

OK, so the film was tolerable in that Columbo/Murder She Wrote kind of way but whose stupid idea was it to make Buddy the killer?!! WHY does Clint think he's sexy enough to play Terry and pull Graciela (young enough to be Clint's daughter!!!!). Also, how does he get it into his head that he's a better writer than M.C?! It was written perfectly and brilliantly to begin with. I'm thinking he cast himself as Terry simply as a matter of ego and the chance to kiss a beautiful younger woman. The entire film is an insult to fans of MC's books and I hope next time MC has one of his books adapted to a film he picks someone who has the ability to put the book, the film and the fans before his own ego!

Just curious, who's the killer in the book?

Well, at least she died doing what she loved...committing suicide.

I'm currently reading another Michael Connelly book. Two characters
notice a poster for Blood Work and comment about the fact that Clint
Eastwood was an odd choice to play Terry McCaleb.

Major *spoiler* for the book (maybe not the movie) ahead, as requested:
Terry McCaleb worked a few cases that didn't get solved when he was in the FBI, one was the Code Killer. The killer sent letters to Terry with a series of numbers at the bottom. So they started calling him the code killer. The code killer stopped killing when Terry started getting an idea of who it would be (someone who may have trained as an officer but didn't finish or was flunked out), around the time he had to retire and wait for a heart transplant. It turns out the killer was the code killer, now killing people with the same blood type as Terry, in order to get Terry a new heart, it was his "gift" to Terry, so then he could frame him for the killings and forever be linked to this guy. One witness, in the book James Noone, volunteers to be hypnotized, but in review of the tape, Terry realizes he was faking it. So he goes to the address James Noone gave them and finds that it's just a building with a computer. The computer is on, Terry put the original series of numbers from the Code Killer's letters into the password area and gets a letter from the code killer/James Noone, confessing to everything. The code did not have a "1" in it, and that was what he was trying to tell Terry by giving the name James "No-one" He tracks the killer to Mexico and kills him.
