In retrospect, I believe Clint did this movie, got two paychecks for Directing and Starring, to fund Million Dollar Baby (and its possible failure/non-release).

I could be wrong, I don't know the history/timeline of all the greenlights & deals.

He was approched with the script of million dollor baby to star in, but asked if he could also direct and since Mystic River did so well they said yes. Mystic River was a good movie, his best as director IMO and MDB was also good, but extreamly overrated, and he should not have beat Martin Scorcese for Best Director. And the Danger character, what the hell was that about. He didnt belong there and was only used for cheap laughs. They could have used his character in a more dignified way.

I didn't think that Danger was simply used for laughs, but rather as a mirror (of sorts) for Maggie. He's also a poignant figure.

Anyway, I don't believe that Eastwood had encountered the Million Dollar Baby script when he was making Blood Work. In fact, the Million Dollar Baby script might not have been written at that point.
