Was this disturbing to only me?

OK. Clint is not a young guy in this movie - his character is not young, either. What makes anyone think that it is possible that the younger latina woman would want to have sex with him? His character is probably 25-30 years older in the movie. The way she was kissing the scar and stuff? EEWWW! Some might say she did that to feel closer to her sister... but really now.. by having sex with him, isn't she merely having sex with her sister?

This was seriously disturbing.

In the novel this movie came from there was an age gap, but it was less, maybe 10 years difference. Eastwood is just older than McCaleb is supposed to be. In the books they get married, have a kid. And I never thought it was disturbing at all.

reply

In real life, Eastwood is married to a woman 35 years younger than he is ...

reply

I think exactly the same than you. The girl is having sex with her sister. When they are naked she touhchs the wound of the operation in him chest in a very disturbing way. I love this movie just for this scene. Eastwood ussualy puts in his films characters that are more deep than you can see in the surface and doesn't shows as they really are. Remember the housewives in Madison County and Mistic River, the president in Absolute Power, the sheriff in the Unforgiven. Blood Work is a minor film in his filmography but still great.

"Clint Eastwood probably made this movie just so he could have that one scene with the latina girl. If your rich and famous of course you can have anyone you want. Hell I would.

His wife his 35 years younger than him for a reason. He's Clint Eastwood. If he were a plumber I doubt she'd like him as much. MONEY MONEY MONEY "

Critic, you're extremely critical and judgemental of EAstwood and it's uncalled for.

If you think that isn't true, you need to wake up.

Hell no.... it is true... WOMEN ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY. PERIOD.

reply

forget MONEY.. it's Clint Eastwood FFS... a living ledgend, coolness personified. I think most women would be attracted to that way in advance of thinking about his money.

If he was an ordinary (rich) joe who was 30+ years older then sure.. probably the money ;P

If he wanted, Eastwood could have such scenes in real life as often as he might think about them. Does he do it and does he want it? I don't know. I don't care. It's not my business and not business of anyone of us. People nowadays simply have too long noses and stick them all around. And his relations to his wife would interest me only if she had a role in his movie.

So, back to movie. Knowing all that you know (and sharing your informations with us ignorants) what gave you the impression that he made an expensive and good movie coworking with such famous people just to make that particular scene? And Jeff Daniels, Angelica Huston and others didn't have more importants thing to do but to be Clint's servants in working this hell plan out?

reply

[deleted]

Now A.Huston is honored to be with Eastwood? How could anyone (let alone her) be honored to be related to someone that is so bad as you described him before?

Or you put all these actors and crew even lower than Eastwood on morality list (it looked as if he was on the very bottom!).

Being far from Eastwood's Dirty Harry phase fan, I also agree that Clint's movies since mid-80's are mostly masterpieces, and highpoints for many actors' careers.

But that being said from both of us I still don't understand your accusations that made me write my first response.

Actually, Eastwood's wife, Dina (Ruiz) Eastwood DID have a role in this movie. I recognized her right away. =)

She played the part of a reporter, trying to get answers from him at the beginning of the movie, just before he runs after the guy and has his heart attack.

He's hounded again by reporters more than halfway through the movie and she's there w/ her microphone, trying to interview him.

Take a look at the cast list...she was Reporter #1.

Cute casting here, as Dina's former profession was as a news anchor in Flagstaff, AZ.

She also appeared in his 1999 film, True Crime, playing Wilma Francis.

Clint Eastwood probably made this movie because in Connelly's next novel "Angels Flight", written in '99, he refers to a billboard advertising a movie about Terry McCalebs story called Blood Work starring Eastwood. Connelly also says that McCaleb doesn't resemble Eastwood.

Probably this inspired Eastwood to make the movie, rather than the thought of scenes with a younger woman.

reply

I wondered about the comment in "Angels Flight". It was published a year after "Bloodwork", and i assumed Clint Easwood had already optioned the book, so Michael Connelly was doing a bit of promotion or just being playful. Or that it was wishful thinking on Michael Connelly's part.

reply

In real life, Eastwood doesn't have the heart of his wife's sister in his chest.

reply

in his book "the narrows" McCaleb gets killed off.

reply

Some girls like older men. And vice versa.

reply

I did think it was strange that the younger latino lady would want to sleep with him, yes MOvieFAN, but i definitely didn't think of her as wanting to have sex with her sister--YUCK

reply

Yup it was disturbing. Typical Hollywood. Old man with a young woman. Its like its written into their contracts on something??

reply

Well, I have some female friends that find Sean Connery to be extremely atractive, and he can be their great grandfather... sometimes age doesn't mean all. And Clint even at his age is very popular among women.

I'd put it slightly different-MONEY AND POWER. But you are correct.

reply

Money, power, fame... should it sound dirty? Disturbing?

Probably being with a person for her big breasts and long legs puts the relation on higher intelectual and spiritual level. Making it therefore acceptable instead of disturbing.

reply

This thread is disturbing, not the movie.........get a grip.

reply

I was very surprised to find that this thread was still alive. Much better and vivid discussions on other boards, often containing useful informations, have been executed by administrators after only several months.

Anyway, I agree how disturbing and threatful this board is. I tried to emphasize how much ridiculous and absurd some statements are, but no matter how much I tried to be provoking, nobody replied, nobody seemed to understand.

People are simply too intolerant, everybody is accepting others only if they have the same opinions and attitudes. In this particular case - everybody makes his own criteria for dating, having sex, marrying etc, and any other reasons why people fall in love, make love or create families find inappropriate, disturbing or disgusting.

reply

This thread is so stupid..........let's see she's really having sex with her sister, and women only care about money.

I married a man 32 years ago and he was 20 yrs older to the day, and he had no money, hey maybe I'm stupid but he was kind and thoughtful and sweet, and we are still together.
What about Katherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas he's got 30 yrs. on her and maybe I'm wrong but I think she was wealthy in her own right, don't think it was a career move either since it doesn't seem to have helped her career.

Also the comment about her having sex with his sister, that's just stupid, don't even have a comment for that.

reply

O.K... I just wonder why did you reply to my post - it is obvious, if you check the former posts, that I not only never have written something like that, but I participated in this thread to oppose these ideas (sometimes deriding, or exaggerating to ironize). So, I hope you understand that we think mostly the same about the subject.

Having sex with her sister as a motive... that really doesn't need comment. However, there are many things in modern medicine that test (or pushes) the limits of traditional morality.

By the way... you have been married for 32 years? You must be even older than me! I didn't expect to find another Metusalem on the site...

reply

you are right..how about the constant pandering to mexicans and blacks by
Hollywood cowards.

reply

Having sex with her sister? It was a heart transplant not a vagina transplant, jeez. Clint is still sexy as hell for his age. I'd jump him and bring a portable defibrillator, just in case!!!!!

reply

[deleted]

I wondered the same. Wanda de Jesús was still smoking hot when she shot this movie (and she is still quite easy to the eyes), in the other hand Clint was already in her early 70's and his character had a heart condition (We shouldn't forget we are talking about a latin beauty falling in love with an aging and grumpy ex-cop called "Terry McCaleb", not with Clint Eastwood the superstar).
I mean, I know such things happens IRL, not often, though. That relationship, besides of being unlikely, seemed to me a bit too forced.

reply

Yes, OP, it was/is disturbing to me.
