Why the name "Jasper"? Buddy Noone on check is not a goof.

When Terry says "I had a little more trouble with the Jasper part" it just means that he wrote the wrong name on the check. When Terry is paying Buddy, he asks Buddy who he should make the check out to, Buddy says "Jasper Noone"; later when Terry brings the check to Buddy the check is made out to Buddy Noone. So when Terry says "I had a little more trouble with the Jasper part" it just means that he wrote the wrong name on the check. When Jasper tells Terry his name is Jasper, then Terry is surprised by the name Jasper. So "I had a little more trouble with the Jasper part" is a way of saying, that he just could not figure Jasper/Buddy for a person named Jasper, and therefore he also wrote the wrong name on the check.

It's not that there is also some hidden meaning to the name Jasper.

At least that is my guess :)

In the book Jasper "Buddy" Noone is called James Noone... so in a way you might still ask - why was the name changed from James to Jasper? Jasper "Buddy" Noone" is the name given to the character created by the combination of Buddy Lockridge and James Noone from the books.

There is. It's pretty good.

This movie happens in the same universe as Bosch (the TV series, which is very good BTW), which is based in a series of books.
