Wrestling Films

I saw THE BACKYARD and thought it was AWESOME. Can anyone recommend any other films about wrestling?

Check out Beyond The Mat and Wrestling with Shadows. They're probably the two other great docs about wrestling. And for the record I agree - it was awesome, if not horrifying.

There's really only a handful of wrestling films out there. BYM & Hitman Hart: Wrestling With Shadows are 2 that stand out the most, I have yet to see The Backyard yet, but I will sooner or later, I doubt I will be able find it in any Hollywood or Blockbuster tape rentals. There's another wrestling documentary called Southern Discomfort directed by Fred Olen Ray, that's basically about South Indie Wrestling, check that out too.

Unscarred: the Life of Nick Mondo. Based on a retired indie wrestler, from CZW. He took a weedwacker to the stomach, and they actually show it! Oh and he was an extremely talented wrestler. better than the current main eventers in WWE. Oh and the movie is better than the Backyard.

*gasp* OH-MY-GOD! *roll credits* GENIUS!

There are a couple of tapes called "BACKYARD FIGHT CLUBS" volumes 1 and 2. I don't remember who distributes them, but they are fairly easy to find. I've even seen them at Family Video. They aren't really documentaries as such, but rather hour-long collections of home-made backyard wrestling footage. Pretty brutal stuff.

You can get tons of violent wrestling at www.rfvideo.com if that´s your thing. Those mexicans really go at it by the way.

The Movie has been out for a few years now and I have to say it has changed alot since then. I am now a wrestler in High Impact Wrestling that is in Arizona that was featured in the documentary and when I started training to be a wrestler, I was helped by Outrage(known as El Salvador) and Scar himself. I have to say that things have changes in so many way for both good and bad. Scar doesnt wrestle anymore after a serious injury and HIW is now a strong indy fed in Az. Its one thing to see the documentary, but for years of personally and myself bleeeding after matches and seeing what the guys will go through in order to put on a match and get a respond from the crowd is always overwhelming. if any of you are interested in HIW itself visit www.myspace.com/hiw for more. As a proud memberand someone who didnt join in intil a year or so after the backyard, I have to say that its definitely a captivating film and though I myself do not personally agree with everything the wrestlers themslves do, people cant question the following of restling worldwide and the backyard craze itself( I was in one myself for years, but never took it to that extreme) was more than underground.
